Proposition 200 and the Katrina victims, will it have an impact?
It occurred to me that many of our visitors may not have any ID and that may impact them if they stay in AZ thru the election considering Proposition 200.

I see this playing out in two ways: there will be a challenge to P200 on the victims' behalf, or the state legislature, smelling some really awful PR, may decide to suspend it.

The scenario: an American citizen, displaced as a result of Katrina, unable to get any assistance or register to vote because they must prove they are a citizen--see the problem?

1. Janet won't let it happen.
She's got the momentum and any of the dwarves would be committing political suicide if they tried.

Speaking of which.... where have our local GOP leaders been? Ken Bennett, Marilyn Jarrett, Jan Brewer, Rusty Pierce, Karen Johnson, et. al. You'd think they'd jump at the chance to look like good guys being the political opportunists they are.

2. I will personally help them get licenses if that's what it takes.
I will donate the fees to how ever many I can.

3. And I thought I had a problem
getting registered to vote when we moved here last December. Both my husband and I got rejected the first time(they let us know a month later by mail), and we had brought passports, DL, changed our address, etc. We needed extra ID because we were coming from a border state (Michigan). Thanks, Homeland Security. We sure don't want to pretend we Michiganders are those evil, border-breaching Canadians.

I'm a card-carrying democrat now, tho'. :)

4. My friend's brother was asked for proof in November, before
Prop. 200 was enacted (in fact, that's when we voted on it). He was born and raised here, retains just a whisper of a Latino accent.

Wrong person to ask--he's a MeCha member of long standing. Word got out fast about that, and MeCha had people in that precinct there like THAT (snaps fingers).

I hope they won't try this, but I know AZ too well to think it won't.
