Can anyone tell me about the candidates for Secretary of State?
This is going to sound weird (a little) given the deserved attention shown to the US Senate and some of the US House races, but the most important race for the longer term (2009-10) may be the race to bump Jan Brewer to the unemployment line.

My reasoning may be a little convoluted, but I think it works:

1. Janet Napolitano should (not a lock, but she is the favorite) win re-election as governor.

2. The Democrats have a good chance of retaking the White House in 2008 (far from a sure thing, but it is well within the realm of possibility.)

3. Gov. Napolitano probably won't be on the ticket in 2008, but her resume has "Cabinet or high sub-Cabinet agency head" written all over it.

4. If she is offered a Washington job, and accepts it, that leaves us with....Governor Brewer??

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what can anyone tell me about Israel Torres and Bruce Wheeler?

1. Isreal is the former head of the Dept. of Contracters and
was formerly a member of Janet's cabinet. He resigned to run. He is Janet's pick. Bruce Wheeler is an ultra liberal from Tuscon who has been in the race from the start. He has legislative experience. He is a phenomenal speaker and is very interested in election reform. Both are great guys.

2. Saracat:
In your opinion, which Dem candidate has the better chance of being elected (assuming, that is, that Jan's Diebold equipment doesn't magically elect her)?

3. Bruce!
I've met both and either one would be better than Brewer but I'm partial to Bruce Wheeler. Also it will come as no shock to people who know me and my campaign that I'm not one to go with the "chosen" candidate, and in my opinion neither should anyone who frequents this site.

Sincerely

4. First of all, welcome to DU.
From what I've read on Bruce Wheeler's website I like him quite a bit as well. As to your response, if you re-read my question you will see that I wasn't asking about a "chosen" candidate (I'm the chooser!), although I can understand how you might make that inference. It's a safe bet that everyone on this site appreciates the profound importance of a carefully considered vote, and a carefully counted vote, having been through five years of rage and despair as the evidence for election fraud has grown to heights seemingly impossible to ignore - except by our party leaders who have remained inexplicably mute.

Good luck on your campaign, and I hope your opponent doesn't have a brother-in-law working for Diebold.
;)

5. Thanks for the info everyone!
I wonder if there would be any support for starting informational threads about some of the 'lesser' races in AZ this year. We are going to hear all about the Governor's race, and the US Senate, and even some of the Congressional races (CD1, CD5, CD8, etc.) but what about the others?

Superintendent of Public Instruction

Treasurer

Secretary of State

Corporation Commission

Some of the races in the state lege

Any input or ideas or thoughts?

Just thinking out loud (so to speak :) )....

6. All of those candidates are welcome
to post information about themselves in this forum. It would definitely be to their advantage.

7. OK.
I'll email the candidates for statewide office. If they (or more likely, someone from their campaign) reply, great. If not, oh well.

The state lege info will be more haphazard - a lot of them don't have an internet presence. I might meet a few at D17 Dem (since I live in LD17) meetings, and could visit a D8 meeting, but those would probably be all I could contact in person.

Any ideas, or should that be enough?

8. there's a very active 'research' forum here, look for the Arizona thread
just for general information.

aside from that, if you want to contact Dems in the state leg., they each have legislative email adresses you can probably try to contact them at-- just look for it in their member bios.

9. Thanks!
I was thinking more along the lines of a place for campaign and position info, and discussions about same, though the research page does have a lot of good info (in some cases, even more than the AZ Dem Party's Candidates page (http://www.azdem.org/?id=27). )

11. Indeed; I'm surprised at how many Arizonans are on DU.
This si a vastly underutilized resource both locally and nationwide.
