TIME TO MARCH!!!! THE EVENT OF THE CENTURY THIS SAT
Okay folks - this is it. It is time for the shit to hit the fan. And if it doesn't, we have no right to complain in 2008 when another election is stolen.
Will an Ohio recount overturn the election results & put Kerry in office? Frankly I doubt it, but it sure would be nice. That is not the most important issue here. That is just a short-term, instant gratification kind of goal. We are talking about a much bigger picture.
We are talking about whether or not we will ever trust our 'democracy' again, whether we will ever believe that our votes count. We are talking about whether we will allow these United States of America to become a fascist state (some may argue that is already the case).
We need to make our flawed election system the biggest issue in our country. It is so fundamental, so huge and so obvious that no one will touch it. For mainstream media to really address this, well, it would rock this country in a huge way. It is much easier to deny that it is happening.
But we here know it is! Whether you believe Madsen or not, whether you believe this theory or that theory or this statistic or that...almost everyone here acknowledges that FRAUD IS REAL! And it happened AGAIN!!!!
Remember why we fought so hard to get Bush out of office? For many, the fight really was about getting Kerry IN office, but, in my 2 months here at DU, the unifying theme is that Bush and his posse are DANGEROUS. And SHADY. And maybe even flat-out EVIL.
Where is the fire? Where is that passion that drove us out to canvass our neighbors, call out to our community, put bumper stickers on our cars that got us spit on? Where is the spark that lit us up to GOTV in ways most of us had never imagined?
THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO GIVE UP! We have to keep our passion strong and make this the most important issue in our public lives!!!

WE HAVE TO GET OUT ON THE STREETS AND SCREAM AND SHOUT AND MAKE THE CAMERAS FILM US!!!
WE HAVE TO GO TO COLUMBUS THIS SATURDAY!

SO WHO'S WITH ME?????

RALLY! "Investigate all 88 counties, Litigate, Re-Count, Recuse”

Saturday, December 4th,
Columbus, OH
1:00 PM,
Ohio Statehouse Lawn
East Broad & South High Streets,
Columbus, Ohio

We demand that every vote be counted accurately from the Nov 2nd election. We demand a full re-count of Ohio's votes and a thorough investigation of all reported irregularities and discrepancies and charges of voter disenfranchisement throughout the state. The right to vote is a civil right and in a democracy no abridgement of that right can be tolerated. In Kiev, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators are on the streets, staying there overnight in the bitter cold, bringing the government to a halt and the world to attention, refusing to let democracy die. There are people coming to Ohio from all over the country for this rally. Let’s do this.

SPEAKERS:
Greg Palast (journalist and author of The Best Democracy Money Can Buy),
Bill Moss (former Columbus school board member),
Bob Fitrakis (Columbus Free Press),
Reuben Herrera (Adelante - Latino/Latina Democrats),
Anita Rios (Green Party),
Cliff Arnebeck (lead litigant in the Contest of Election suit),
Jad Hummeidan (Council on American Islamic Relations),
Petey Talley (Ohio AFL-CIO) (invited),
Charleta Tavares (Columbus City Council member) (invited)

1. Dec 7 OH certified--now recount can start
It's now 12/7, and OH announced the results there are now certified. Now the recount begins.
There is some legal debate at the national "Election 2004 Results" forum as to whether this recount can have a legal impact on the election, since it won't be completed within 7 days of the 13th, when the OH Electors are supposed to vote, and Bush v. Gore indicated this was a deadline.
However, some say we really have 'til 1/6/05 to question and change election results, w/ help from Senate.
Anyway, what I keep wondering, is why the Dems don't pursue the recounts in some other states. There are 7 (seven) close states, and in every one of them, there are "things" to look at:
BESIDES Ohio:
Florida (as last time), there are internet (at least) stories that the FBI is investigating a Florida Democratic Congressman's evidence of a GOP plan to manipulate the FL vote.
New Mexico: A recount is apparently going to be conducted. Some think there was a bogus voter registration drive there that disenfranchised Democratically-registered voters. Exit polls showed Kerry carrying New Mexico in every instance.
Nevada: The original bogus voter-registration drive state, a Judge Clark there allowed several thousand NV voters to cast ballots after it was proven they'd been disenfranchised by such a bogus drive. However, an attempt to expand this judge's ruling to the entire state has so far been rejected. Meanwhile, the Green/Libertarian recount effort was defeated by money, something the Dems could help. It's not clear whether the ruling against the parties challenging the Electors there will be appealed. Exit polls showed Kerry carrying NV in most cases.
Colorado: There were major voting problems, and exit polls showed it was within a fraction of one percent. One exit poll showed Kerry carrying CO.
Iowa: All exit polls showed Kerry carrying IA, and the Bush margin was within 10,059 votes. There were over 4,000 dead people registered to vote in IA, according to an AP report.
Arkansas: The only Southern state besides Fl in which Kerry led Bush in pre-election polls. Clinton began campaigning for Kerry here right at the last minute, as it were, after his surgery. I believe even the exit polls may have missed the dramatic impact this could have had here.
North Carolina, Louisiana, and Virginia all showed Bush at Pluralities most of the time, even as he led Kerry. While these might not bear a recount, it might be worthwhile to check the computers there after the election. These states may very well have been Plurality or 50% states for Bush.
Texas, South Carolina, Wyoming and Oklahoma have all been found to have major-league discrepancies in computer tallies, even though Bush's margin in them was large. In other words, it wasn't THAT large, would be the implication.
California: several glitches in Bush's favor have been found there, suggesting Kerry's margin there was much larger than currently shown.
Pennsylvania: exit polls showed Kerry's margin much larger than the tallies.
Probably, even if this all checked out, Kerry would still win in the Electoral College only, with Bush still having some kind of a Popular vote lead. This would make Kerry the first Democrat to win in the Electoral College only. But simple odds, over 200 years, suggest this had to happen, sooner or later, with admittedly the nature of democraphics for the Democrats suggesting it wouldn't be as likely for Demos as for GOP--and, indeed, it wouldn't have been.
But, while reount efforts have been mounted in NV and NM, the Dems have stayed out of them. Maybe they should jump in. Also, why not look at IA, FL, CO and AR, while they're at it? They've got something like 45 million dollars left over from the Kerry campaign. They might be surprised, and can't help but at least pick up votes in those states.
Are they (we) afraid? They(we)'d better be afraid NOT to.
