2006 redistricting called impossible (by GOP SoS Bruce McPherson)

ASSOCIATED PRESS

SACRAMENTO - Secretary of State Bruce McPherson cast more doubt on the need for a special November election, saying the new legislative and congressional districts sought by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger can't be in place for elections next year.

"There's no way I can see that we can make 2006," McPherson, California's top elections official, told members of the Sacramento Press Club recently. "Maybe 2008, but that's a question mark."

Schwarzenegger announced in January that he wanted to take the power to draw the districts away from the Legislature and have a panel of retired judges draw new lines in time for 2006 balloting.

He's threatening to call a special election in November to give voters a chance to approve an initiative that would make that change. Schwarzenegger's proposals to cut state spending and lengthen the amount of time it takes for new teachers to gain tenure could also be on that ballot.

Wasn't McPherson the guy that some DUers said was being put into place to do Schwarzenegger's bidding and rig the special election?

3. Perhaps they were all rounded up and
put into the death camps which Congress approved earlier this month?

2. I would be happy to be wrong about him, but like Reagan said...
trust but verify.

It would be suicidal to just assume he's going to do the right thing if Karl Rove decides to start managing this situation more closely.

5. Rove fisting local republicans
Karl Rove doesn't need to have his hand up every ass.

Just imagine this scenario though: Arnold is going to lose. He is the poster boy for the post-religious right GOP. And California has a lot of electoral votes and representatives in Congress which could be decided by this special election, which in turn could decide the majority in the House.

So would Karl be motivated to interfere?

And if he did, imagine you are McPherson, a basically moral guy.

Who are you going to be afraid of, the Democrats in the Assembly and Senate who didn't put up a fight when your predecessor was ran out of office or the guy who ran your predecessor out of office as well as orchestrating the crisis and recall that led to the previous governor being removed and replaced by a puppet with less than a majority of the vote?

The guy who can get you mocked on TV News or the guys who can't get on TV if their ass was on fire and monkeys were flying out?

The guy who would probably forgive you at the end of the day, or the guy who wouldn't rest until your career was over for crossing him?

Also, if you had someone in your family recently killed in a violent crime, how seriously would you take threats from someone with powerful friends and no conscience?

This is assuming the best about McPherson. If he leans more toward amoral like most politicians, who start out as chamber of commerce types looking for a way to scam government contracts for their friends, then he would be that much easier to bend.

6. so McPherson has been threatened?
or are you just pulling this crap from thin air

or are you one of the Shelley apologists who is still pissed that he got busted for being a first class ass and resigned

I believe McPherson is a decent person who tried in the past to make the SOS office nonpartisan, like it should be

He wouldn't have been re-elected from Santa Cruz, which is not a Republican area, if he hadn't been a good representative for his constituents

and he obviously is still respected by his former collegues or else he wouldn't have been approved on a 34-0 vote

it would have been much easier for Ahnuld and the Rovians if Ahnuld has nominated some right wing fire breather that wouldn't have been approved--it would have made much better press

but Ahnuld did the right thing, for once, and appointed Bruce McPherson who is trying to take an office that has been torn apart and misused by Kevin Shelley for his own personal gain and that of his contributors and put it back together

7. Not threatened but could be. Is it so hard to imagine?
Knowing that Rove engineered and stage managed Arnold's rise, do you honest to god think that he will leave this stuff to chance?

I sincerely hope you are right, and the guy's apparent decency prevails, but knowing what has occurred in other states over the last few years, it would take willful blindness to believe it won't be tried in as big a prize as California.

I am not an apologist for Shelley, I don't give a rat's ass about in politician in particular. But I do respect what he did and know that his work made it harder for elections to be stolen here, and the charges against him began to pile on shortly thereafter.

Do you follow current events on a national level, or are you a paid troll, sent to put out fires here?

Frankly, your attitude is like telling a girl it's okay to walk into a biker bar blindfolded and naked, just because no one has been raped in that particular bar.
