On Thursday June 30th CODEPINK LA will be doing a preview event
of the new play "A Good Soldier," by Nicholas Kazan, a story
about a young woman soldier who becomes conscious of the
reality behind the war in Iraq while she is serving there and
amidst an erupting Abu-Ghraib type scandal.
This will be a thoughtful and provocative event- a perfect way
to kick off the 4th of July weekend and really reflect on what
it is we are celebrating in this "land of the free."
This is the world premiere of a new play by Nicholas Kazan, an
A-list screenwriter (best known for his Oscar nominated
screenplay for "Reversal of Fortune," as well as films like
"Frances," "Fallen," ''Enough," etc.) Nick sat down to write
this play the day after the election, and 8 days later he had
the first draft of a powerful drama loosely described as
Antigone set in Iraq. The play will be directed by Scott Paulin
and produced by Laura Shapiro, starring up and coming young
actors and Hollywood veteran Clancy Brown.
We will be doing a special reception at 6:30pm with Jodie
Evans, Scott Paulin, the playwright Nick Kazan, Clancy Brown,
producer & activist Laura Shapiro, and other anti-war
activists. Light refreshments. At 8pm will be the preview
showing.
