Berkeley Peace Lantern Ceremony Aug 6th
(I just recieved this in my email)

Saturday, August 6, 2005
6:30-9 p.m.
North end of Aquatic Park, Berkeley

Hello!

The East Bay Peace Lantern Ceremony is coming soon! This is the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombings, and we hope you'll attend this very special, beautiful event. We also invite you to help make it a success by volunteering -- several opportunities are listed below.

The ceremony will feature Japanese music, messages from the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and of course a chance to decorate shades on peace lanterns, to be floated on the lagoon at dusk. The event is free, and it's a great family occasion. I hope you'll be there.

I will actually be in Hiroshima on that day, representing Berkeley's mayor at the Mayors for Peace conference and attending the commemoration of the bombing. A fantastic crew of volunteers, some of whom have been with this event since the first one four years ago, will be putting on the ceremony. They can use your help; there are many fun and important ways to help make this event a success, and I hope you'll choose one or more from the list below. Please contact the person listed next to each appropriate item.

Near the end of this message are listings for three related events taking place during that period, too.
