Democrats should change recall method so it goes to lt. governor
This would have a couple of salutory effects:

1) it would save money.

2) it would prevent the kind of machinations the GOP did to get Arnold in this time.

3) if Arnold vetoed it, it would remind people how he got in and make them madder at him.

4) if Arnold signed it, it would be admitting that he is not legitimate.

The Democrats won't do this, but they should ask themselves if the GOP would exercise similar restraint in the same situation.

2. The big problem then would be ...
... if California elected a Democratic governor and a Republican lieutenant governor, the GOP would immediately go into scorched-earth recall mode on inauguration day to get the Democrat ousted and their assclown installed.

4. A couple of things....
Relating to your #1, an actual recall election has happened twice (maybe even only once)in CA's history so that's a touhg angle to argue.

Relating to #2, it wouldn't prevent machinations by anyone if the Lt. and Gov are of different parties.

For #'s 3 & 4 I don't think most people wouldn't care enough either way Ahnuld went because this is largely a non-issue(see # 1).

5. I've been chewing on this.
It might mean a Recall would be less likely.

It might mean it would be more likely.

It might mean we'd get more cooperation between Gov and Lt Gov candidates.

If they were of same party, opposition might be less likely to charge ahead with Recall of sitting Governor.
