Affirmative Action in California
I have heard on numerous occasions that people in California feel they were duped into voting down Affirmative Action in California. If that is the case why do Democrats not put an item on a ballot that pushes for the restart of Affirmative Action in California and let the people vote on that item?

1. Affirmative Action
is very unpopular in California. The majority of the population sees it as reverse racism and I must confess that giving people privilages based upon their skin color or religion strikes me wrong. If people are under privilaged and need extra help then it should be based upon income not upon race especially in things like college entrence exams.

2. Where did you hear that?
I've only heard a handful of people speak against the proposition, and all of them voted against it in the first place. Most Californians still don't support AA.

IMO, it has to do with the fact that California is no longer a "White Majority" state. When more than half of the population is comprised of minorities, the people stop seeing race as such a huge issue (locally, anyway).

FWIW, I actually agree with the other poster on one point. The goals of AA would be better served by helping poorer people into the colleges and other government services. At this point in California, most of the inequity is economic, not racial.
