3. where do you hike?
I've been all over Abbey's country when I used to live in Phoenix. Now I'm in LA and stick to the Sierra, but occasionally get back to Arizona and Utah when I can.

4. All the good hiking around here is at least a 1 hr. drive
The Laguna Mtns and around Palomar Mountain. Lots of nice day hikes. All of our vacations are built around hiking and we have been up to S. Utah at least five times in our lives. Beautiful :-).

We used to live in Ventura County years ago and hiked all over the Angeles National Forest and the Los Padres NF.

Where are your favorite places to hike in AZ?

5. West Fork Oak Creek
in Sedona (#1!), Aravaipa Canyon, the Superstitions, Fossil Springs, Cibecue Canyon....I love the canyoneering-type hikes, where you have to get right in the water. I also love the quiet and stillness of the desert.

In the Angeles, I love Waterman Mt, the upper Arroyo Seco, Mt. Islip...lately I've been walking in the Simi hills (Chesebro & Las Virgenes) but that's on fire right now! So sad - but if we get some decent rain this winter it will look nice again by spring.

What do you recommend in Utah?

6. Thanks for the tips. Been to the Superstitions many years ago
I am copying your last post :-).

I think Canyonlands National Park is my favorite place to hike in S. Utah. We spent two weeks around Moab the last time we were there. Drove over to the Manti La Sal National Forest and did some hiking there. It was in October and cooler so the day hikes weren't killers.
