My take on Arnies bulls*** propositions for the special election
Arnie has dropped from 70% approval ratings to 34% now. His special election fiasco has angered the voters. We do not want this. We are fed up with these effing special elections. This is four years in a row. Enough!
What this special election is about is a power grab pure and simple. I heard on the only right wing San Francisco radio station that the intent of the special election is to get the initiatives through at any cost and expect the state to turn red within 2-3 elections cycles. I think this clod was trying to fire up the masses but he screwed up big time by saying this.
So here it is:
Prop 74: Yet another way to weaken the schools and education by Republicans who want to privatize the whole thing with vouchers. The idea here is to make the job of a teacher less attractive by extending the probationary period to five years and thus potentially robbing the schools of good new teachers. A form of "starve the beast". All of these things that Republicans do to weaken schools slowly spiral the schools to a crisis where Republicans can then proclaim the only way to "solve" the crisis is to issue vouchers. Don't fall for this.
Prop 75: Pure crap and probably unconstitutional. The unions are slapped with restrictions and the corporate interests are not? What about churches? They are now giving to political causes yet are exempt? This type of initiative has been tried several times in the past ten years. I guess they think Arnie and his impressive 34% approval rating will get it done this time. NOT.
Prop 76: No accountability to Arnie if he arbitrarily cuts anything in the budget at will. Again, education is hammered and he "starves the beast" on the road to vouchers "to save education" in a crisis of Arnie's making. This proposition is a vicious power-grab and should be voted down.
Prop 77: The judges are actually chosen by the governor and approved by the Assembly. Republicans are really risking what little power they have here as studies have shown longtime GOP Congressman run the risk of losing their seats. When this proposition was written conservatives thought they could ride Bushes coat-tails... and were burned when Arnie campaigned for Bush in 2004. This is when Arnie's ratings really started to slide... (when he campaigned for Bush). I find it funny that in Texas the excuse for re-districting was to "better reflect Republican trends in voting" but in California the system is rigged? What a bunch of crap. If Republicans want to change the system in California they need to win elections. This is a Democratic state with pockets of conservative in-breeders and trailer trash in the central valley and inland empire. Arnie should have remembered that. If he wants to act like some whacked out Neocon then he should move to Texas and run for Governor there.
Prop 78: Sponsored by the drug industry! That tells you everything you need to know on why you should vote no.
Prop 79: Vote yes on this one just to piss off the drug companies. They will never stop selling their drugs here. The market is just too big.
Prop 80: Grey Davis was blamed for the electrical crisis in 2001. This was unfair and he screamed to high heaven that we were being robbed by the likes of Enron and the rest. Tapes of Enron employees and other energy providers deliberately shutting down power generating plants to create a crisis (then laughing about it) was the cause. In a strange way Davis got the last laugh as he led the way in conservation efforts that saw California conserve 20% of its electricity... Enron and the rest was left holding the bag and they got screwed. Anyone else remember that Bush and Cheney did nothing to help after a phone call from Enron's Ken Lay? Calif screwing Enron is Poetic justice eh? I am voting yes on this one. Re-regulate this boondoggle.
Prop 73 and I believe one other Proposition involving parental notification for teenagers seeking abortions is a way for the conservatives to "fire up" their base in much the same way the anti-gay items in the red states did for the 2004 election where divisive anti-gay issues were able to get the GOP voters out.
It is simple. Whatever Arnie is for I am against. He is a clown, a disgrace, and a embarrassment. Much like the disgrace we have as president now.
I was more aware of the wording of Props 73, 74 and 75, but appreciate your quick take/info on the others. Like you, on principle I'm agin anything that Arnie wants.
