Dear (CA Democratic Party member),
I want you to know, without giving away anything to our opposition, what the Party has been doing since the early October E-Board.
Again, I want to acknowledge and give thanks to the grassroots for all their help throughout this election season. I know it has been hard, but the more we stick together and work toward getting out our voters, the easier it will be to defeat Arnold's initiatives and bring sanity back to the political process.
The latest PPIC poll numbers are very encouraging.
We have the governor on the run, but we must be vigilant. As I noticed at the KTVU debate in Walnut Creek, he does not want to share the podium with any of our able advocates. My thanks again go out to Senator Don Perata and Rose Ann DeMoro for their efforts. At the end of the program we knew the governor was stalling to prevent me from having any time to respond and set the record straight, but I hope that even in two minutes I was able to set out our agenda and refute his misleading comments, but we have to do more. My thanks to all of them, and to Richard L. Benson, President of the UFCW Local 870, AFL-CIO, for allowing us the use of their union hall, which will also serve as one of our East Bay headquarters on Election Day.
I met with over 800 students at U.C. Berkeley and they are enthused. Yes, there were some Republicans in the crowd who were mouthing the pro commercial language, but once the truth emerged as to Arnold's motives and those of his supporters, the audience was ready to walk precincts. Their tuition is at stake and they realize that their economic future is tied to defeating these initiatives.
I have also been traveling to other parts of the state, including Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Sacramento, Santa Clara, Oakland, Stockton and Palo Alto to name a few. Everywhere I travel, Democrats are energized and determined to defeat Arnold on November 8.
My thanks go out to the CDP staff for the production of voter contact campaign mail and materials and to our strategic partners in The Alliance for a Better California for the statewide field operation --- all intended to increase Democratic turnout for this special election. The labor movement has done a spectacular job in getting the word out and keeping the message simple and direct.
We have been able to reach out to our Democrats, Decline to State and others with more than two dozen mailers, and 600,000 walk pieces, which have been distributed to nearly forty counties.
All told, the CDP special election mail will total more than 16 million pieces, all urging voters to reject Arnold's initiatives, including our slate card which will go out with polling place information, and which includes ALL of the Propositions and voter rights information. And given the fact that many polling places have been consolidated and confusion will occur, we stand ready to have folks available on Election Day to assist voters with polling place locations or other questions. Our Promote and Protect the Vote operation is also ready to assist voters throughout the state. The P2TV hotline number is 877-321-VOTE.
Now the work begins, especially in our united front with other Democratic organizations. GOTV is our mantra between now and Election Day!
The last four days of the election will be critical for voter contact. I hope that everyone will volunteer all possible time to one of the many headquarters. Check here for the one nearest you.
