9. I'm a classified school employee
who was 'bumped' out of my other job when the Gropenator 'borrowed' that 2 billion two years ago. I was rehired for another position which I love and have gone back to college to earn my degree. I am thrilled about how this election turned out! Maybe when Arnold pays us back, we can buy some more TEXTBOOKS FOR THE STUDENTS! yayyyyy! I'm also happy for the teachers too!

Thanks!

10. I'm so glad
that your new position worked out so well for you! I know of many 'classifieds' that were let go--broke my heart. Have friends in education. I hate how hard the system was hit by what he's done.

Congratulations on your return to school! I know you'll be successful!

11. Thanks but at the rate I'm able to get my classes
down, I should have my degree a few years before I retire!

I just cannot imagine what would have happened to our schools if Groper had gotten his evil way with us. I asked my friend at work, "What are they going to do, just have the kids sitting in a room alone?! Will they at least have enough textbooks then?"

Back to B minus movies for Ahnold!

I can't tell you how scared we all were in education (I'm a teacher in Bakersfield). Because of budget cuts, we lost most of our janitorial staff, one office clerk, and our VP. We have been running on a skeletal crew, and that's with the added pressure from ShrubBot's No Child Left Behind.

I don't think the 50+% that didn't vote appreciate how dark times would have become had Arnie and his Gang Bang snuck those props in during an off election year. Whew! I DO feel we dodged a bullet.

13. I was an attendance secretary
and an afterschool library tech and was bumped out of both positions when the governor took the money he was supposed to pay back. We picketed and did everything we could but it didn't matter. Why do they think education can afford to balance their budget for them?! Do they think school is just fun, games and fluff? How can they expect kids to test high if they continuously cut the quality of their schooling?

Now I'm an almost full time library tech and totally LOVE it! I have a lot of fun on my job but it's because I love books and kids. Successfully encouraging them to read is the most fulfilling work I've ever known. I would love to become a librarian with a masters but I'd be about 70 by that time!

Another stupid thing? I was made to go through the No Child Left Behind Compliance testing because I hadn't finished my education through to a degree (was too busy working!) and then after completion of it (it was similar to teachers CBEST I think it is?), found out that library techs were reclassified two years ago as being separate from paraeducators and not required to comply with NCLB! Grrrrrrrrrrrr
I am so sick of republicans small minds!

Defeating this proposition is wonderful!!! The people have spoken and told Arnold NO! You're not ruining our kids' schools.

14. I'm glad you are happy
Your new and better position sounds great! NCLB comes up for reauthorization in 2007, and with Shrubby & Friends looking like they'll be polling in the teens by then, we may have success in seriously mending it or (a hail mary here) getting rid of that tragic piece of "law" all together.

15. I'm with you--
I hope it is overturned altogether. A smart politician will put it on their platform to run in '08--and maybe get back some of those they've lost to homeschooling, etc.

It's a disgrace what this bunch of repukes has done to education. I know they aren't particularly concerned with the status of public education--they have enough money to hire private nurses, etc.

I just hope his private nurse was educated in the system of NCLB, and maybe gets some dosage computations wrong, because he/she had to share a book in math class. That would show him.

18.  our Para eds were not tested

i don't know what the district did because I work in adult ed but my friends ( w/ almost 30 yrs. of service all kept their jobs ). i was never in danger because of my years of service and my master's degree, but my friends didn't have the ed. credits.

one good thing is that after more than 20 years of trying, the IA's FInally managed to organize our group and now we are in CSEA.

needless to say, our principal was quite peevish to learn of this. after all, we were the only unrepresented group in the district and our ranks were decimated a couple of years ago by a mass layoff. those of us who were brought back lost hours and all benefits.

best wishes to you!

19. I hope they will escape it
but everyone who is required to test must be compliant by January 1, 2006! I was just peeved that the main ed office for our county made me go through it only to hear from my D.O. that lib techs are not required to do it! gggrrrrrrrr....

Thank you. I'm sorry to hear you guys went through the mass layoff too. It was pretty painful and probably unnecessary hadn't the steroidal misogynist taken 2 billion out of our budget! I want to know how we force him to pay it back now!

20. wasn't there a provision for ' experience "

in lieu of the test? that's what we were given to believe. i haven't heard any more about it from my friends in k-12.

hmmph. the district gave us a 2% raise. big deal. when the new superintendent took over, they gave him a 10k bonus before he even stepped foot in his office!

i'm thinking that if we hadn't joined the union, we would not even have gotten that piddly crumb.

are you all off on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving? we are. the teachers get paid for it. we DON'T.

21. Nope, I heard that NO ONE is grandfathered in
just from experience. I think you are expected to have 48 college units and if you don't, you have to take the training and pass testing.

Let me tell you, I spent weeks this spring cussing out the dickwad that is our pResident for this NCLB crap. And then, finding out afterwards, that I didn't need to do it?!!! ggggrrrrr!

Your paraeducators better check on it!

I only get 28 hours a week so Wednesday is my usual day off anyway. We have to use vacation time for Monday and Tuesday. The same with the first week before Christmas. If you don't have vacation time, you have to go to work even if your work has to do with kids!

17. Even my relatively conservative ex-GOP mom voted against it
She votes NO on any proposition that is supposed to fix something that isn't really a problem. For me it was a matter of who was promoting it and what their true agenda is.
