LAT music critic robert hilburn leaving the paper: buyout package

the critic people love to hate is leaving the times after decades of being the pop/rock music writer/critic. perceived as being in favor of the latest thing versus commercial music (ie things people actually want to buy/see) hilburn has riled many people.

guess the new management of the LAT is trying to get rid of all the old timers who probably have HIGH salaries and/or are UNION stalwarts.

PS - for example, hilburn slammed the band Styx (great tunes, fab vocals)as "corporate rock" and routinely advocates gang smut rap music no matter how degenerate as "street music" even though most of it is made by rappers who are millionaires.

I remember cursing Hilburn when I was in High School, because he thought the New York Dolls embodied the true spirit of Rock (as opposed to bands like Yes, ELP, and Tull, that I preferred).

A few years later, when punk broke, I realized the wisdom of Hilburn's words. I bought my first album by X solely on his recommendation. I never regretted it.
