PALM SPRINGS - Mary Bono will run for re-election in November and seek a fifth term representing the 45th Congressional District, the Republican said Tuesday.

Bono said she supports a guest-worker visa program that would allow people from other countries to come and help fill those jobs.
Bono talked about the recent revelation that the federal government was eavesdropping on telephone calls and said she wants to know more. "I think it's very important that Congress has hearings into this because I'm uncomfortable with the thought of what we've heard about with the eavesdropping," she said, adding that she will withhold judgment until she knows who was being targeted and why.

When she returns to Washington on Jan. 31, Bono said one of her priorities is reauthorizing the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency Act, which helps fund the Desert AIDS Project in Palm Springs. Bono is the lead sponsor of the legislation named for Ryan White, an Indiana teenager who died of AIDS.
David Roth, a 36-year-old Democrat and California Student Aid commissioner from La Quinta who announced his candidacy for the 45th District seat this year, said he never doubted who his opponent would be.
