I'm ready to move to LA, if I can afford it. It's in the 70's there. Any neigborhoods I can get in for 350K?

5. looked at it- it reminds me of Bernal Heights in SF
streets a little too narrow for a hilly area. Houses and yards mostly well cared for; an active HOA. However, if we can wait for a condo in the Eastern Blgd, it may be worth it.

6. I live in a mixed neighborhood, I like it.
And that is not a bad area around there at all.
But you can never do too much research with RE transactions,
and it is, IMHO, not the right time to buy low.

7. Not the time to buy low?
isn't it always the time. It is definitley the time to sell out here, before the coming correction. We have a big beautiful new house here , but the climate is gross.

8. Yeah, you'd be better off here than there, I would think.
And it IS an excellent time to sell high. If you could sell
now and wait for the pop, things could work out, but rent sucks
too, and timing pops is a fools game.

9. I'd look around the area south of Eagle Rock....
what's it called - Highland Heights, something like that. Old blue-collar community, beginning to have a lot of young couples with small children moving in - this could have a good effect on schools in a few years. Eagle Rock is worth a look too, although for 350k you may have missed that boat. Also, possibly West Altadena, where I live. Here's a reall useful shopping tool:

http://www.lacountyassessor.com/extranet/default.aspx

On-line listings of all sales (within the last year) & valuations, property descriptions, maps.

11. thanks,we have seen Highland park
and will continue looking . We love Eagle Rock and although we can go to 400, I don't think that's good enough except maybe a fixer, that needs 50k more.

13. stayed in a motel there last month, but we saw very little
it seemed all commercial, what I did see looked nice. I am so sick of the snobbery in this valley, the bad medical care, the energy bills, the lack of decent bread/bakeries,the bad drivers and all the crime.Lastly I am sick of Mary Bono and Bonnie Garcia.

14. It has the rep of being a nice community.
They are said to be proud of the community feeling and
all that, low crime rate, kind of blue collar. You are
right that it's pretty commercial, lot's of businesses,
not your spacious suburb, I dunno what prices are like.

15. yeah, and the traffic and population density
will have you running back to the desert.

you won't find anything west of the 405 for that amount and that's where the air is coolest and clearest.

16. running back north maybe, Sonoma
the desert is however, overrated, the weather sucks especially since we both have had better. The snobbery is overwelming, along with the cost of living. hard to find a decent loaf of bread.
