Anybody know about this new CA Traffic School Law starting today, Jan 1?

Motorists

Drivers convicted of serious traffic violations, such as drunken driving, will no longer be able to automatically erase the blemish on their DMV driving record by attending a traffic school. Most insurers use DMV records to set individual rates.

(My question, what kind of violations are no longer covered by traffic school?)

4. Serious offenses = two point violations
-- Traffic School. AB 645 prohibits a court from allowing a driver who
commits a two-point violation from attending traffic school. Two-point
violations include drunk driving, hit-and-run, speed contests, evading an
officer, and vehicular manslaughter.

5. Here's the list of two point offenses
Evading peace officer
Reckless driving
Driving whith suspended/revoked license
Hit and run with injury/property damage
Driving on the wrong side of the road on a divided highway
Speeding over 100 MPH
Causing bodily injury through reckless or negligent driving
Speed contests
Exhibition of speed
Minor driving with BAC of 0.05% or more
DUI alcohol or drugs
DUI causing bodily injury or death
Improper transportation of explosives
Vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence

The only one of these that I disagree with not being able to clear is the Exhibition of Speed. Most of those tickets go to teenage drivers for chirping their wheels while leaving a light/sign, or for burning out while showing off (think donuts in a parking lot). I do agree that drivers should be ticketed for these, but too many are given for merely chirping tires. People have been given exhibition tickets when their "crime" was simply that they were still learning to master a clutch. It's not justifiable as a 2-point offense.
