Two cases of swine flu have been discovered in Marin County, the first confirmations that the virus is present in the Bay Area.

The Marin County Public Health office said a 60-year-old woman and her 20-month-old granddaughter tested positive for the virus. Both had recently traveled to Mexico with other family members and both developed “moderate flu illness after their return,” according to a release issued by Marin Health and Human Services.

Health officials said the child has recovered and the grandmother was experiencing only mild symptoms. Other family members who traveled to Mexico are not ill.

A press conference was scheduled at 3 p.m. today to issue more information.

1. CNN is reporting that they thing they found the earliest
case of the swine flu in Mexico. Patient zero as they're calling him comes from a small village in Veracruz only a few miles away from a large American owned pig farm. CNN reports that all tests from the pig farm -Smithfield Farms- are negative.

I find it very hard to believe that patient zero contracted the disease out of thin air when this large pig farm is so near by.
