Roy Tuckman's "Something's Happening" show on KPFK restored to full six hours

SOMETHING'S HAPPENING! TIME CHANGE

Starting this week, the show will again be broadcasting from midnight to
6am. ("Six hours of dynamite radio") This is not a special program
change for the fund drive, but will be our regular time for the
foreseeable future. Here is the statement from Alan Minsky, our
interim Program Director, on the time change:

"Informativo Pacifica" will be moved to 9pm, Monday through
Thursday. Not everyone is pleased with the change, but it is
important, at least, from the point of view of keeping the audience flow
from my show to "Democracy Now!" It is not our Mission to make money
or deal with programming issues with the view of audience numbers and
resulting income, but when things get down to a certain point, this is a
matter of survival. We rank 48th out of 53 stations in metro Los
Angeles and have this huge transmitter. This doesn't make
sense!

I am aware of some regular listeners boycotting the fund drives since we
'lost' the final ½ hour of the show about 6 years ago. So if you
are a boycotter, TIME TO END THE BOYCOTT!! I am also asking anyone
who is pleased with the return of the 5:30-6am time to the show, to
PLEASE MAKE A CELEBRATORY PLEDGE DURING THAT TIME, even say $25 for the
increased 26 hours we will be on for the next year (one hour we throw in
for free).

KPFK FALL FUND DRIVE

We're having our fund drive a month earlier than usual due to the
necessity of making our income for the fiscal year. Our goal is
$1,150,000. This is going to be a difficult point, as our programming
still reflects the 'philosophy' of the past few years, and we are just
starting to make programming changes with an eye to increasing our
audience to former levels. So we will be depending deeply on our core
audience and can only promise that we will be working to bring in new
listeners starting now – a process that takes months and years. A
note of optimism is that the Washington Post has reported that
non-commercial radio stations in general have had an increase in income
during these tough economic times.
