I'm sick to death of los angeles. I feel like picking up and moving. Anyone live there? Is the job situation dreadful (legal secretary type stuff is what I'd look for). Anything secretarial/word processing-like. I feel like I have a few skills that should get me some type of job. What are the rents down there? they seem to be similar if not a little lower if I can trust sites like Rent.com. I've been down there a half a dozen times or so and always think it would be a nicer city to live in than here.

just thought I'd ask while I am in the dreaming stage.

thanks

1. Nope, would never consider living anywhere in CA but the liberal N. CA coast!

Way too much LA phoniness and far too many people for me anywhere below Santa Cruz than I'd want to live in.

I'm from San Francisco but now live deep up in the beautiful, progressive, redwood lined coast of Humboldt County, CA.

I do see an amazing amount of people originally from San Diego up here these days...a lot are SD surfers. Good waves, not crowded, extremely liberal, comparatively inexpensive to live, low crime rate good music scene and great pot!

5. TMZ is not really representative of the people of Los Angeles.
We're not all full of silicone and phoniness.

But crowded? Well, we are certainly that!!!!

2. You want to leave LA?
What is it about burning concrete that you don't like?

3. As California cities go
San Diego is one of the best to live in. However, I prefer the roominess of the eastern side of the state to any urban area.

4. Mr. kt is originally from San Diego.

If you make the move, be sure to check out where you're living first. He grew up in east county, and I've spent a great deal of time with him over the years down there with his family. That is where he lived when we first met, so I've spent plenty of time over the years to get to know San Diego and to form opinions. I particularly know east county, and it can get pretty conservative and pretty hateful. I wouldn't live anywhere outside of maybe the downtown area. Personally, I wouldn't leave LA. It is a much different place living there versus just visiting.

The rents vary, and it's worth spending some time down there really looking. I don't think the job market is any better down there than it is in LA.

7. I live in Vista
and have lived in Encinitas, Cardiff, Carlsbad and Oceanside...

What part of SD were you looking in to? I was born/raised in the San Fernando Valley and would gladly take SD anyday of LA; but that's my personal opinion. Rents are pretty comparative unless you are getting into a ritzy part of town or want to live with an ocean view; but there are plenty of deals to be found. I would definitely stay on the coastal strip myself. Most of SD is pretty conservative, but you'll find more liberals on the coast (or in the mountains) than you will in the inland valleys. East County is highly known for their republican, my-way-or-the-highway, mentality and I rarely go there unless I'm going on a hike... :)
