Your impression of Barbara Lee?
Edited on Tue Dec-01-09 03:26 PM by Prism
She's my new representative. I've heard the name before in national politics, but am sadly uninformed. I've been reading her congressional website, but I figured I'd ask what Bay Area DUers thought of her. What do you like/dislike about her, what issues is she really good or really terrible on?

1. consider yourself among
the most fortunate. Barbara Lee was the ONLY rep in the house to vote no on Iraq. She is one of the most progressive in the House. I adore her.

2. Wow
I definitely did not know that about her.

I wanted to look into her while figuring out what kind of campaign volunteering to do next year, but with 86.1% of the vote last election, I think it's probably safe to say I can expend my efforts elsewhere. With the way things have been going, I've been very down on the idea of voting in 2010, but I think I could easily and happily pull the lever for her.

And of course http://lee.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=79§iontree=38,79

I think I'm in love, lol.

3. I used to have a bumper sticker
that says Barbara Lee speaks for me (even though I wasn't in her district---I just wanted to be close to her) cause I'm in love too.

Happy voting for you. I have a repuke to kick out of office this year. Want to come and help?

5. She got death threats over that. I used to live in her district
and would move back in a heartbeat if I could. :hi:

7. You are correct
It was the first vote after 9/11 and she was the only rep who didn't want to turn the store over to Bush and relinquish the power of Congress.

6. It was the War Powers Act of 2001, AKA Operation Enduring Freedom
House vote 420-1. If I recall correctly her main objection to the act was that it granted the President too much power.

The Iraq war vote, AKA Operation Iraqi Freedom, was 296-133.

She has issues raising money in her a district since the average income is pretty low. Thought you'd like to know.

While she does not represent me, I respect her immensely.
