Thursday, December 9 Join us for Human Rights Day in Fresno (Human Rights for Homeless in Fresno)
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 12:14 AM by annm4peace
Thursday, December 9
6 p.m.
Human Rights Day - The homeless and their allies will gather at Fresno City Hall. They will call on the city to provide basic public services for the homeless - drinking water, portable toilets, and trash bins. They will demand these services for as long as we wait for city officials to fulfill their promise to end homelessness (as stated in the Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness). There will be a rally at 6 p.m. The larger the rally the more pressure their will be on City Hall to change their policy and begin to treat the homeless with dignity and respect.

Some homeless people and their supporters plan to spend the night on the City Hall lawn and you are welcome to join them. If possible, bring a sleeping bag, or blanket to donate to the less fortunate. The group will also be collecting canned food, and hygiene supplies for the Homeless.

For more information, and details please contact Al Williams, at (559) 647-7165,

DID YOU KNOW THAT…

.. FUSD has identified close to 3,000 students as being homeless

…The Fresno Madera Continuum of Care (FMCoC) on January 27,2010 identified 2457 “unsheltered” persons in their summary data collection count?

Although this number does not include the homeless residing in motels, garages, or where multiple persons / families living in one/two bedrooms hotels or houses. FMCoC had knowledge that these individuals would likely be homeless within 24 hours and were already living in unhealthy, uninhabitable circumstances, HUD definitions precluded them from the count. EFFECTIVE 2011-HEARTH ACT, THESE PERSONS WILL BE COUNTED!

… FMCoC identified unmet needs and recommended the city and county to address the need for

· 71 additional Transitional Housing beds, with a minimum of 16 new transitional housing units that will provide households with Children

· 190 Permanent Housing beds with 67 units (to serve homeless families) plus an additional need of 991 permanent housing beds for individuals without children.

· 526 beds for individuals in emergency shelters

AND DID YOU ALSO KNOW????

The unemployment rate in the Fresno County was 15.7 percent in October 2010,

Total crop value in 2009 was $5.3 billion
