Almost half of city work force gets pink slips
This may be the next strategy by the rightwing in breaking the back of organized labor.
Tear them apart a piece at a time (or at least threaten them).

Notice how the Council is being real vague in not identifying which jobs will be let go with no indication if the proposed privatization will save any money whatsoever.

Almost half of city work force gets pink slips
About 203 city employees will be receiving the six-month notice in the City Council effort to correct the budget.

COSTA MESA — City officials have crunched the numbers and determined that more than 200 Costa Mesa employees — or 43% of Costa Mesa's municipal workforce — could be laid off through outsourcing.

Of the 472 full-time positions, 203 city employees, give or take one or two, will get pink slips notifying them that they could be laid off in six months, said Administrative Services Director Steve Mandoki.

It's unclear when officials will notify employees, but based on the large number of city workers who turned out to Tuesday evening's City Council meeting, which lasted into the early hours of Wednesday morning, there might not be many who haven't already heard by now.

In a 4-to-1 vote just before midnight Tuesday, with Councilwoman Wendy Leece dissenting and despite nearly unanimous opposition from the audience, the Costa Mesa City Council approved contracting out 18 city services by the fall.

3. They will decide who gets fired after
voter registration is checked. A friend, a Costa Mesa resident, was picking up his son from a swim class. He overheard the instructor telling his son that China was opening a coal fired electrical plant a week and that the US should be using coal for the same purpose; that not using coal was one of the reasons the economy was in such poor shape. My friend reminded the swimming instructor his son was there to learn to swim not to be indoctrinated by RW talking points.
