I compare my current SMUD bill to my PG&E bill 30 years ago.

I now live in a 2500 sq. foot home with plenty of irrigation (2acres). My latest Sacramento County electricity bill is $127.87.
30 years ago, I paid that much to PG&E in a 1400 foot house with NO irrigation.

NUF SAID?

1. Just paid $313.00 to Tucson electric for last month, no gas included.
for a home of about the same size. 2 people and I run around turning off all the lights. CFs or LEDs everywhere but the wife pretty much keeps the AC on 24-7.

I'd hate to see what PG&E would charge. My little 1,100 sf condo in SJ always ran over $200.00 a month, even in the months where we didn't need heat or A/C. and I was obsessive about conservation. God I hated those fuckers!

2. 2800 sq ft 99 year old drafty farm house with AC
On a well.

Last months PG&E bill? $387.00.

We also irrigate a small orchard and a veggie garden (about 4 ac. total).

I could mitigate the energy costs with solar and/or wind but right now, I can't afford the up front costs, even though the investment pencils over the long term.

3. I think I've seen some solar installation outfits that will install for free
and you pay them a portion of what you save or resell to the power grid or something like that. You might do some research on the internet tubes. I was looking into this a few years ago for our condo complex but the rest of the board thought it was too early in solar development so I didn't persue it.

5. We live in an 1,083 sq, ft. home and our ...
So Cal Gas bill this month was $23 and our Edison bill was $53. We do live near the ocean breeze so no A/C
and no gas appliance except for the range...

You are correct, neither bill has gone up that much if, really, at all.
