Need help in checking trustworthy of a lender

We get an offer to refinance our mortgage with conditions that are too good to be true. Yet the sender - Pope Mortgage - claims to be a lender licenses as a broker under CA Dept. of Real Estate.

Can anyone give me a phone number or a web address where I can check the track record of this lender?
