1. maybe maria put her foot down and doesn't want husband to run.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 10:39 AM by flordehinojos
But ... if the bush goons need him to run and ask him to do so, arnie will be in a tug of war between pleasing maria and pleasing the goons and my guess is that he most probably will end up pleasing the goons and running again. he allowed himself to be used to oust gray davis and if he had had any sense of decency he would've said, he would run only after davis finished his term.

edit to read GRAY DAVIS (instead of Pete Wilson which is what I initially wrote) --

5. author a GOP flak/why would ANYONE believe Arnold?
Arnold is a Rove creation like Bush himself, and Bush doesn't even keep promises to GOP senators like John McCain.

We should proceed as if Arnold is running, and even if he isn't, we need to end his political career so he doesn't run for the Senate and eventually president.

You should also note that a similar article ran recently quoting Jeb Bush as saying he had no plans to run for president. Gee, that doesn't sound like it's coming from the same playbook does it?

7. Lockyer who used to be slightly progressive has become an
opportunistic windbag. Out of the field, Angelides is the one that has proven his progressive stripes. Lockyer has sold out all of his key constituencies at least TWICE during his term as AG. I used to be firmly in his court. I won't give him a dime now. PLEASE get us a progressive.

8. He might pull the same trick as with the recall
Wait until the last possible day to announce he's running to give his opponents less time to point out what a corrupt asshole he is.

11. Oh please - yank on yank off
Arnie's office has put out so much misinformation that I believe nothing he ever says; only ever look to his deeds.

12. His deeds?
He ran on the fiscal irresponsibility of the previous administration's borrowing to meet state spending needs and then, in his only act that I can see, borrowed to meet state spending needs.

13. Yep
Maybe I should have said this earlier; his deeds don't impress me either. All I was trying to say is ignore anything that comes out of his mouth as it has no bearing on his intentions.

14. I agree. Ignore this message.
There is something going on behind it that we don't see. Somethings up.

Most politicians would keep that secret until the last possible moment, in order to keep their bargining power.

23. yeah, putting up with all of his crappy movies...
...was a small price to pay to keep his ego gratified without having him in politics and being able to fuck up all of our lives, as he is now in position to do.

Please, more crummy movies instead of more politics.

Also, if Arnie doesn't run, then PHIL ANGELIDES should have a clear shot at the job.

20. I think Lockyer wants the job.
I heard him speak at a San Diego Democratic Club holiday party, and he sure sounded like a candidate for higher office.

As far as I'm concerned, he can have it! Lockyer has filed a slew of lawsuits against the Bush administration for interfering with California's enforcement of stringent gun control and environmental laws, plus he's challenging Bush's back-door attempt to overturn Roe V Wade. He even defied a threat from Ashcroft to have Lockyer arrested for rebelling against relaxed federal gun control measures.

22. Arnold is worried about opposition in the Republican primary..
This is his way of scaring some neocons who might vote against him. If they think he might not run again, many may vote for him simply because he can win.

"Most Republicans think Schwarzenegger is better for California than Gray Davis was. However, some of his actions in office -- signing the clean-needle bill and making noises that he'd sign a bill to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, as well as the large number of Democrats he's appointed -- have given his right-of-center supporters heartburn. If Schwarzenegger agrees to tax increases instead of cutting state spending, he'll be in danger of losing significant support among his Republican base."

Another move which has pissed most neocons was his support of Proposition 72 and for an individual mandate. If Arnold doubts he can win the nomination he is certainly more likely to not run than switch parties. Perhaps he's thinking about challenging Feinstein, but he would encounter the same problems with his base as he'll have just running for re-election.
