Pls read our proposal for paper ballots of record in California......

a small group of us have come up with this general plan where a paper ballot is the ballot of record for counting and declaring winners, with the ballots counted publicly at the precinct location and results announced to the public before vote totals are forwarded to a central tabulating authority.

we are just plain citizens, now looking for sponsors for our proposal either as a legislative item or an initiative.

constructive suggestions welcome. our proposal is very narrow by design and is not an attempt to talk about all kinds of election issues or election fraud.

in california, an initiative is limited to one topic.

I would love to work at circulating petitions for a ballot initiative.

Electronic voting machines shall only be permitted if they distribute a paper ballot which shall be cast and counted; no figures shall be stored on the machine.

I believe our proposal meets your request where it says:

"SECTION 2. Voter Verified Paper Ballot as the ONLY "official" ballot for counting and declaring winners.

All voting systems used by voters to cast a vote shall produce a permanent paper record as the OFFICIAL ballot"

I see our proposal posted on other DU forums has met with silence, except here in the CA forum where one would expect a response.

feel free to print out our proposal or otherwise bring it to the attention of people you know who are interested.

we have had no response from libertarians, greens, etc or even democrats in sacramento.....:-( but we are just getting going.

but I rather see the machines simply done away with all together and revert back to using paper ballots that will be hand counted
