SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Neighbors of the Mineta San Jose Airport are steaming mad about noise-muffling doors on their homes that get hot enough to fry an egg.
The thick glass storm doors were installed last summer by the airport to soundproof 79 Santa Clara condos. The doors muffle the roar of jets. But when the sun beats down, they heat up to 186 degrees.
"I have a 2-year-old son who reached up to grab the door knob and burned his hand," said Robert Smith, an aerospace technician who lives in the complex north of the airport.
Airport representatives say they're trying to fix the problem, but haven't come up with a solution in five months.
"It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out," said Mike McKinney, president of the Lafayette Americana Homeowners Association. "I don't know why the airport can't get it right."
