ELK GROVE, Calif. -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger held a news conference Thursday, pushing his plan to change the way congressional district lines are drawn, but his dividing line turned out to be incorrect.
Schwarzenegger chose a neighborhood in Elk Grove for the event, putting down a red ribbon between two homes to represent the district dividing line. The governor contends lawmakers who are looking to increase their chances of re-election have drawn district lines.

The problem was that the location where the line was laid down during the news conference is not where the district dividing line is. The real line is about one-eighth mile east of the event, according to the Sacramento Registrar's Office.

The governor's critics pointed out that Thursday's event took place within a gated community, which -- they say -- suggest the governor's misdrawn line may not have been a simple mistake.
