This is a letter from my state Rep Andrew Romanoff (CD6-D), and this is his experience... (first paragraph anyway) - he should win his district easily.

I spent last weekend knocking on doors, introducing myself to my constituents. Little did I know how much work I had to do.

At one house, a woman asked me what party I was in. 'I'm a Democrat,' I said. She promptly handed back my brochure and told me she would be voting for Pete Coors instead.

Like our waning summer, hopes for a constitutional solution to Colorado's fiscal crisis are fading fast. Getting a two-thirds vote turns out to be even tougher in August than it was in April. (Maybe it has something to do with Daylight Savings Time.)

But there is one bright spot on the horizon. By a simple majority, the legislature could ask voters for permission to retain and spend enough revenue to balance the budget.

The governor has indicated he would 'consider' calling a special session if we can produce the magic numbers -- 33 in the House, 18 in the Senate -- to pass such a proposal. A couple of sympathetic colleagues and I are trying feverishly to count enough votes to make that happen. Higher education leaders are doing the same, in an attempt to rescue Colorado's colleges and universities from deeper cuts.

There is one catch: If we don't meet within the next 10 days, it will be too late to refer a measure to the November ballot. The Secretary of State is required to certify the ballot by September 8. The Republican National Convention (a conflict for some legislators other than me) runs from August 30 to September 2. So barring a special session over Labor Day weekend, next week marks the end of our negotiations.

What a great Democrat!!

He lives a couple of blocks away from me in Washington Park. I am block walking too, but wasn't with him when the "moranic" and totally uninformed lady knee jerked him about the booze pushing hypocrite he of course isn't running against.
