I got a reply from Ken Salazar.

Hi there,

Back a few weeks ago when Ken Salazar was under attack by "Focus on something, anything but how we're getting away with supporting politics and staying tax-exempt" I mean Focus on the Family, I wrote him a note.

I told him not to put up with this crap, but he also should explain himself for voting Yes on the Bankruptcy Bill.

I got half the response. He didn't answer why he voted for it, but here is the rest:

Dear Joe:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the recent newspaper and radio attacks launched against several of my Senate colleagues and me by Focus on the Family Action.

My own Christian values and beliefs have been directly called into question. Anyone and any organization is certainly free to express their views and religious beliefs, and publicly advocate those views in accordance with the laws of the United States. What I strongly object to, and what I have criticized, is when a political advocacy organization, in the name of religion, engages in decidedly “unchristian” tactics, using questionable “facts” and other means to promote their views. Even more disturbing, and wrong, is these groups declaring that anyone who disagrees with their political views to be unchristian or opposed to “people of faith.” President Bush was right to speak out against this demagoguery and I agree with his stated comments.

What is equally wrong is when prominent leaders of these same political organizations call into question my own religion, calling it a “false” religion.

With regards to the current debate regarding judicial nominations, I believe United States Senate can and should transcend the abuse of power at the root of this controversy, and move forward in a spirit of bipartisanship on the issue of judges, as well as the monumental challenges facing our Nation such as health care, transportation, energy, education and care for our elders.

It is helpful to keep in mind the words of the Constitution: “…No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” Article VI, United States Constitution.
