Think Tank Uses Creative Radio Ad to Unveil Pro-Taxpayer Web Site
Colorado’s free market think tank is using the airwaves to introduce a resource to show voters the dangers behind two statewide initiatives on this November’s ballot. A new radio advertisement paid for by the Independence Institute portrays the advocates of Referendum C and Referendum D as “the Chicken Littles” who “claim that the state’s sky-high budget is falling,” and points listeners to the new Web site TaxIncrease.org. The commercial and Web site are part of the Independence Institute’s effort to educate voters concerning the serious problems with the two initiatives.
Referendum C asks Colorado voters to give up tax refunds for five years so state government can spend an additional $3.1 billion. Referendum D would allow legislators to borrow $1.2 billion beyond that. “The people of Colorado need to know the real reason the government wants to take away their tax refunds for five years,” said Independence Institute President Jon Caldara. “They need to see the sky isn’t really falling on the state’s budget, despite what some politicians want them to believe.” TaxIncrease.org features links to relevant studies, opinion-editorials, and even to the all-time high Colorado state budget.
In addition, site users can listen to audio files of informative presentations and the newly-released radio commercial decrying “the forever tax increase.” Users can also sign up to be on the TaxIncrease.org mailing list, so they can receive regular updates on important issues related to Referendum C and Referendum D. “This Web site will be your one-stop shop for the truth,” Caldara said. The Independence Institute is a non-partisan, non-profit public policy research organization based in Golden, Colo.
