The 12/5 winds

A friend of mine needed to serve on jury duty yesterday in Jefferson County. Her nephew drove her to the Taj. She was released and they went for lunch at Furrs near I-70 and Kipling St. Just as they got out of the car they heard a loud clatter. The nearby Burger King's sign got blown down. No one was hurt.

I guess they got 90 mile an hour winds in Golden. I never did get the chance to watch the local news. It really blew here in Lakewood. Hubby and I worked on our yard raking and picking up twigs and branches these past few weeks. Now, it's totally littered with elm and cottonwood twigs and small branches again. Nice that none of the huge cottonwood limbs came down. We're so grateful for that.

not far from the Taj.

I used to see this all the time going from Ft. Collins up to Cheyenne, but was a little surprised this close to the foothills. Usually the mountains stop some of the heavier wind from sustained blasts. I was glad not to have a high profile vehicle, though light weight cars were still being buffeted on the road. My office was freezing due to all the drafts through the windows and I saw a little finch literally blown directly into one window--poor little guy. So, I gladly headed home early.

I might as well not have walked to class. Flying would have been more practical...

75 year old house, much renovated over the years. We kept all of our shingles, lost only a largish branch from the japanese pagoda tree outside my office.

DH said he had trouble walking from the bus stop to his office (he works in the CU research park) because he "never learned to sail and had no idea how he was supposed to tack." (He wears a heavy leather duster as his winter coat.)
