CFE Activists - TAKE ACTION on Important Environmental Legislation

Dear CFE Activist,

This week, YOU have an opportunity to MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD and support legislation to preserve open space, improve water quality, reduce the negative impacts of global warming pollution, improve the air we breathe, and protect and restore Long Island Sound and its coastal resources.

Please join us for any or all of the following events, and let our legislative leaders know that responsible environmental policies are essential to protect our families health, provide for economic growth, help create vibrant, sustainable communities and allow us to fulfill our responsibility to leave our children with a cleaner and healthier environment.

News Conference - Thursday, March 16th, 10 a.m., Room 1E, Legislative Office Building (LOB)
Senator Finch and Senator Williams announce the “Land Preservation Act”, a proposal to direct $60 million from the state’s current year budget surplus to fund open space acquisition, urban park revitalization, farmland preservation, and brownfield restoration.

Public Hearing – Environment Comm. Friday, March 17th, 10 a.m., Room 1E, LOB
The Environment Committee is hearing a number of important initiatives this Friday. For more information, go to http://www.cga.ct.gov/. The committee request 50 copies of testimony to be submitted before the hearing; sign-up begins at 9:00 am. If you are unable to attend in person and would like to submit testimony, please email your testimony with your complete contact information to tkinney@cfenv.org.

SB 658 - The bill authorizes $3 million in funds for infrastructure improvements on the Shepaug River. This investment and settlement is an important model for how river flow issues can be resolved to restore a river and create economic opportunity.

SB 660 – The bill creates a Clean Cars Consumer Incentive Program for the purchase of vehicles that produce less global warming pollution

SB 656 - The bill will direct $60 million from the state’s budget surplus to open space, farmland preservation, brownfields remediation, and urban parks restoration. (See 3/16 Land Preservation Act press conference above)

SB 642 – To reduce diesel emissions from school buses and construction vehicles and equipment working on state funded construction projects.

HB 5270 – To authorize $8 million in bond funds for the purchase of open space in the towns of Old Saybrook, Essex and Westbrook, also known as “The Preserve.”
