Lamont Shown Gaining Ground
June 9, 2006
By MARK PAZNIOKAS, Courant Staff Writer NEW HAVEN -- A new poll shows a dramatic tightening in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, indicating that Democrats increasingly see newcomer Ned Lamont as a credible challenger to Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman.
Lamont Shown Gaining Ground

"Lieberman leads Lamont among all Democrats, 57 percent to 32 percent, compared with 65 percent to 19 percent on May 2. Among Democrats judged likely to vote, Lamont has closed to within 15 percentage points, 55 percent to 40 percent.
...

"The rally was organized by Democracy for America and MoveOn.org, another progressive advocacy group, before Quinnipiac announced that it would be releasing its first poll since Lamont won 33 percent of the vote at the Democratic state convention on May 19, more than twice the votes that he needed to qualify for an Aug. 8 primary.
...

"Douglas Schwartz, the director of the Quinnipiac poll, said the new survey was "remarkable" in that Lamont surged in popularity even as 76 percent of those surveyed still knew too little to say if they had a favorable or unfavorable opinion." I've never seen anything like that," Schwartz said.
...

Schlesinger's campaign manager, Richard Foley, said that Lieberman's decision after the convention to air an attack ad on TV against Lamont indicated that Lieberman's private polling showed the race even tighter than 55 percent to 40 percent among likely voters."

1. I Met Lieberman in Bristol Today
First, please forgive me, as I'm still fairly new to DU and cannot post my own thread. I apologize for hi-jacking this thread, but the link is related. :)

Larkspur may even vouch for me here, or Nutmegger.

I went out and met Joe today, and I wrote a huuuuuge long entry about it here, and cross-posted it to DailyKos (feel free to recommend it, if you're into that sort of thing).

Also, believe it or not, I met someone at my workplace who posts here! WTF?! If only you knew where we work, let's just say I was very pleasantly surprised. :)

2. Spazeboy, very well written, interesting story & the most interesting part
was that Lieberman had no fans along with him and was garnering no interest as he worked the "crowd," such as it was. I'll tell you one thing---the first and only time I met Ned Lamont, I took an immediate interest in him and wanted to hang out as long as possible and learn more, and am now convinced he's the right man for the job. I got some people interested in him when I went signature gathering for him before the convention.

Anyway, great story and it looks like Joe has lost his "mentum."

I would like to thank you so much for the Lamont Resource website.

At one time I would have been honored to meet LIEberman. Oh well. I'm going to go read your post now. :)
