Did anybody catch the DeStefano - Rell debate?
I did not, as my daughter is a bit under the weather...

But, I glanced at the Courant and they seemed to imply that DeStefano won the debate, but there were not "knockouts" or major gaffes by either party.

1. I watched it.
I thought DeStefano did very well and yes he won this debate. He showed passion without getting shrill, but his voice got a bit raspy. Don't know if it's due to a cold or just talking on the campaign trail alot.

Rell blew 2 questions big time: 1) who would you support for US Senate and 2) what mistakes have you made and with hindsight how would you do them differently?

You can watch the debate from the WTNH web site http://www.wtnh.com . They have a video there of the whole debate.

2. What is it with Republicans not being able to admit mistakes?
I mean, I make mistakes all the time - my wife can confirm that!

Maybe DeStefano's people can have Jodi Rell's face morph into George Bush in a commercial, with both of them saying they haven't made a mistake.

3. The New Haven Register called it a draw
Very interesting !

I listened to part of it on the radio. Rell was very calm and composed. De Stefano was on the attack, but in a more polite way than LIEberman attacked Lamont IMHO.

4. I watched it.
Seemed kind of even to me.

I'm not a huge DeStefano fan but I HATE Rell even more.

So DeStefano gets my vote as he did in the primary.

5. DeStefano did not look or sound snarly as he is wont to do
He's really worked on that snarl and on smiling more. He was almost gracious to Rell. Which is good. Women are particularly sensitive to male politicians beating up on female politicians.

Rell really effed up on those infamous two questions: mistakes she made and who she's support in the senate race. She looked devious. Even the NH Register said so in this morning's editorial. DeStefano really knows his stuff, which is why I have always voted for him for mayor and in the Dem primary and will of course support him in the general. He just can be a mean s.o.b.!

6. Colin McEnroe was ripping Rell's debate performance today
Said that just about every answer she gave was bad... even asked WTF was Rell saying that when she heard about the North Korea nuke test, she immediately called the Homeland Security Dept and told them about it. He wanted a follow-up from the moderator asking her exactly what she told them and what was the response from DHS...

7. Uh, would DHS already know about the nuke test?
What did I miss?

8. Of course
Colin was kind of incredulous that the moderator didn't follow up with Rell on that bizarre comment.
