Johnson demands ad featuring birth defect baby be pulled
An angry Nancy Johnson demanded Wednesday that her Democratic opponent pull a television ad accusing the Republican congresswoman of ignoring a constituent's pleas to help her obtain health insurance coverage for her infant's reconstructive facial surgery.

The spot implies that the mother, Erin McCall-Goldie of Burlington, only received help after turning to Johnson's 5th District challenger, state Sen. Christopher Murphy, D-Cheshire.

The Murphy campaign did acknowledge Wednesday the mother sought Murphy's help first but is standing by the ad.
The baby boy was born with a cleft lip and palate and his photograph was featured in the ad.

"I contacted Nancy Johnson's office repeatedly," McCall-Goldie says in the ad, as a series of dates scroll across the screen. "She never called back. But I went to state Senator Chris Murphy and within six months Chris passed a law mandating insurance coverage for reconstructive facial surgery."

1. Well, if it were MY baby, I would certainly go everywhere I could
to get help. Johnson still hasn't refuted the original claim, that she did nothing. Perhaps there was something on the federal level that could be done in addition to the state level. It sounds like she just let it slip by.

Johnson is getting her just desserts. She has been in Congress too long, enjoying her perks. Time for her to go into assisted living for a rest.

BTW, the Murphy ad about lobbyists wining and dining is also a killer ad. It makes me mad and I'm not even in her district (I got Rosa!)...
