Anyone else finding the deluge of Lamont calls and
especially the nasty mail campaign off-putting?

I started off totally undecided, but I'm really not liking the campaign.

Or maybe it's just me!

1. I find Malloy's negativity off-putting, myself...
Edited on Sun Aug-08-10 08:02 PM by Alexander
He's repeating a lot of the same garbage Lieberman used against Lamont back in 2006.

Besides, it was Malloy who went extremely negative in 2006 against DeStefano. He promised not to make the same mistake again, but seems to be repeating his act.

Okay, Dan. :eyes:

Edit: Oh, and Malloy's ads that I see everywhere on the Internet sure are pleasant. What do they say?

"Values and experience money can't buy".

In other words, he's attacking Lamont for being wealthy, in his very own slogan. Classy.

2. Are you just starting to pay attention to the CT-Gov race?
Malloy has been negative on Lamont from the first day Ned jumped into the race to now. All of Malloy's ads are negative because Roy Occhiogrosso, who is Malloy's spokesperson this year and was Lieberman's in 2006, believes in that crap and has be regurgitating his lies about Lamont from the 2006 US Senate campaign. Lamont's attacks on Malloy are based on facts that have been published in the state's papers. Lamont had to fight back because there are enough voters who reward negative attacks to turn the election, but unlike Malloy, Ned has fought back above the belt. Malloy, as he showed in 2006, is a "win at any cost" even if it divides the Democratic Party in the process.

Here's another thing to think about. If Malloy ekes out a win tomorrow, he'll only have $3 million max to fight Tom Foley, who will spend at least $25 million in the race for governor. If Malloy ekes out a win tomorrow, Foley will start pounding him the day after the primary through election day. Malloy may have a lead over Foley now, but it's one that a well funded Republican, like Foley can easily eat into with a very underfinanced Democratic opponent, like Malloy would be. Linda McMahon has eaten into Blumenthal's large lead because Richard hasn't responded yet. He's saving his campaign cash for the general election. And the hypocrisy about how Malloy's kids were treated by the law will easily play into the Republican playbook and depress minority turnout in the general election for the Democrats.

Malloy would be the weakest Democrat on the general election ballot if he wins tomorrow.

3. I'm sick of the campaign ads
phone calls and mailings in general, from everyone.
Will be voting for Lamont, though, tomorrow.

4. On the phone calls
Edited on Mon Aug-09-10 08:19 PM by JerseygirlCT
I really wish they'd make robo calls subject to the Do Not Call list.

If someone really wants to speak to me, they should have to call me, in person. Or even have another live body call me. But interrupting my day nineteenth times with these damned robo calls? Really does no good and just pisses me off. And that's an equal opportunity rant - regardless of who I vote for tomorrow!

5. I'm just sick of the calls, period.
To me, it doesn't matter if it's a real human or a robo. It's the point that they keep calling and calling and calling.....

6. Oh, I hate them all, too
It's just that I'd like to put more obstacles in their way so that I could avoid them!

I was thinking today about what a huge difference one sincere, and well-written (that is, no jargon, no hyperbole, no boilerplate) letter would make. I'd read that. I'd pay attention to that. Tell me, in simple words, what you think you can do to make my life better.

SO much better than dozens of glossy mailers coming daily. I pay them almost no mind; they go right in the recycling.

Seems to me that old and trusty direct mail, in the hands of someone talented, would do a much, much better job.

7. Caller ID solves that problem
If I don't recognize the caller, I just don't pick up. My new phone system also has a block feature that I have to try out.

8. Yeah, one of these days I ought to get it!
For now, I'm back with the few who don't have ID, so I usually answer. Though I can detect a predictive dialer quickly, and those always get hung up on.
