Tony won the seat vacated by Bob Allen, the Republican state representative who's believability/electability was wiped clean after a bathroom sex bust in which he said he only did it because the guy was black, and he felt he was "about to become a statistic" if he didn't offer to perform oral sex on the (undercover cop) guy. Amidst great pressure from the GOP he finally stepped down last year. The seat is for Brevard County (Space Coast) and part of Orange County (Orlando).

Sasso Scores Upset In Heavily Republican District

Sasso faced a statistical disadvantage in a district where Republicans make up about 45 percent of the nearly 100,000 registered voters, compared to 35 percent for Democrats.

Campbell, who faced a tough primary, spent $100,000 more than Sasso over the course of the entire campaign. The Republican Party of Florida also invested nearly $160,000 in contributions and services in the general election.
