Girl Missing 5 Weeks Never Reported Lost; Mother Says Doing Own Search
Source: WKMG-TV, Florida

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A woman accused of not reporting her daughter missing for five weeks refused to answer a judge's question of where her daughter was in a bizarre missing person case that continues to frustrate investigators.

Casey Anthony, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday after her daughter's grandparents called Orange County sheriff's deputies over concerns about the well-being of Caylee Marie Anthony, 2.
Detectives said when they contacted Anthony it was determined that she apparently never told anyone that Caylee has been missing for more than a month.

Thursday, Orange County Judge John Jordan asked Anthony where her daughter was.

"Mrs. Anthony, the court would say to you, 'Where is Caylee Anthony?' Jordan asked Thursday. "But I can't force you to answer that question but that is the question I leave with you. Do you understand?"

1. Poor kid. Never had a chance.
Yes, that is past tense.

3. Maybe. But there are other possibilities.
She could have just abandoned her somewhere. Or sold her (might explain why she lied about her job). Or just given her away. Or she might know where she is but not want to tell cops for some other reason.

Your assumption is the easiest one, and has a high likelihood of being the case, but investigators have to keep the other possibilities open.

8. That woman appeared to be psychotic.
Yeah, I know, Dr Frist and all that.

But there was something about the way she moved, much less her absolute lack of expression.

And I agree with you, past is the perfect tense.

14. And the FT's almost make it a requirement that you have to compromise your
principles in order to survive in this state. Something is very wrong with that, my friend.

11. it's not the heat,
it's the humidity, and, ever since one of the bushes was the gov, things got wierd, downright crazy wierd. We got fishing villages that no one can fish out of, a few years ago we had dead zones off the west coast that no one could explain, we got Katherine Harris, we got condos lining the beaches and shops that are closed due to high taxes, higher insurance rates and low paying jobs. We have people voting to cut their own taxes to the point police officers are not being hired, or being layed off, but in one area, we need a new baseball stadium because of the economic impact it might bring. It's nucking futz, really.

15. And we have insular minded people who demand they don't want
outsiders intruding into their way of life, then wonder why their shops go out of business.

I tell you, the contradictions are enough to drive you crazy.

12. welcome to florida...
yahoos 'losing' their kids...

teachers having sex with their students...i'm talking young female teachers with young boys more often than not...hell, in the tampa area it's not even front-page newsworthy!!

an ex-governor idiot who looks smart compared to his brother....

a state that year by year has fewer people 'from that state' while trying to destroy the fundamental beauty of florida to accommodate more houses....

drunks swimming with gators, getting their arms ripped off...and it's just part of the local 'culture'...

yankees looking for sunshine, immigrants looking for jobs, gangbangers looking to make some room to breathe...

and my ass looking for a tan and some cold sangria...

16. Update-Jail Call: Missing Girl's Grandma, Mother Argue
I'm not sure who is crazier, the mother or the daughter. Something stinks about this whole thing though.

Jail Call: Missing Girl's Grandma, Mother Argue
Grandmother of missing Florida toddler argues with daughter in telephone call from jail
The Associated Press
ORLANDO, Fla.

The mother of a missing 2-year-old Orlando girl told family that she didn't know the whereabouts of her child in a contentious telephone call from jail released Friday.

Casey Anthony, 22, is being held on $500,000 bond after investigators said she lied to them and did not report daughter Caylee Marie Anthony missing for more than a month.

In the July 16 call released by the Orange County Corrections Department, Caylee's grandmother, Cindy Anthony, complained to her daughter that she wasn't telling her where the toddler was. Casey Anthony responded angrily that she didn't know where the girl was.

"Are you kidding me?" Casey Anthony said.

Cindy Anthony responded, "Don't waste your call to scream and holler at me."

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=5454239
She added that her daughter's incarceration is her own fault.

"You're blaming me that you're sitting in the jail? Blame yourself for telling lies," Cindy Anthony said.

Prosecutors said in court earlier this week that Casey Anthony is a person of interest in what is beginning to look like a homicide investigation, though she has not been charged. Sheriff's deputies testified that her car smelled of decomposition and a cadaver-trained dog noted a smell of human remains there.

Casey Anthony has been charged with child neglect, making false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation.

In the same call, Casey Anthony said calling her family was a waste of time and told an unidentified female the family isn't supporting her.

"Nobody in my own family is on my side ... They just want Caylee back. That's all they're worried about right now is getting Caylee back and you know what, that's all I care about right now," she said.

A telephone message left after business hours at the office of Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, wasn't immediately returned.

Cindy Anthony called 911 on July 15. In one call, she asked police to arrest Casey Anthony for stealing a car and money.

She told a dispatcher that she had just found Casey, who had been missing for a month, as well as the car she was driving, which had been towed. She also expressed concern that her granddaughter was not with Casey.

She called 911 again about an hour later, crying, after she said Casey Anthony finally told her Caylee had been missing for a month.
