Message to these self-serving morons in the Florida Legislature!

http://action.gazajustice.org/t/4410/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=886

I am very disappointed that you joined other House representatives in adopting a resolution to support Israel's unilateral assault on the civilians of Gaza (HR1a). The entire world, with the exception of the State of Florida, is aghast at the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.

Our federal government is actively pursuing plans to end the Israeli offensive in Gaza. Florida’s purported support for the bloodshed in Gaza can only be attributed to a lack of information and knowledge on the actual situation. Funny how the mainstream news media has shut down coverage (MSNBC 1/7/09) just when the situation was at its absolute worst!

As a resident of Florida, it is disconcerting to know the legislature would enact a resolution without a proper review of the relevant facts. Remember that you were elected to represent all Floridians, many of whom condemn Israel's Gaza assault.

An assessment of the resolution reveals it to be factually flawed and severely biased. The resolution condemns only attacks on Israeli civilians while failing to mention the comparatively high numbers of Palestinian civilian casualties. According to Amnesty International, civilians – particularly the 1.5 million Palestinians trapped in Gaza – continue to both be targeted and suffer disproportionately in this conflict.

On this past Tuesday alone, Israel bombed a United Nations school used as a shelter killing around 40 civilians. So far the Gaza death toll is more than 700, of which around half were civilians and 130 under the age of 16. It is estimated that there have been 3 Israeli civilian deaths. Israel has lost 7 soldiers; four of them in "friendly fire" incidents.

Israel's military said its shelling of the U.N. school was an attack on a military target and accused Hamas militants of using civilians as cover. Christopher Gunness of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, responsible for the school, said the agency is "99.9 percent certain there were no militants or military activity in its school."

While Hamas is wrong to launch rockets into Southern Israel, collectively punishing Palestinians for the actions of a few is against international law. Israel's military has demolished Gaza's infrastructure and government buildings including the ministry of education, ministry of health, the parliament building, the police department and the fire department. More than 12 mosques (houses of worship) have been bombed at times while worshipers were inside. Gazans are without food, electricity, medicine and fuel.

I would like to know why the State of Florida would support such blatant disregard for human life and security. I would also like to know when you will consider a resolution condemning the killing of all civilians and urging all parties to respect humanitarian law.

This effort is demonstrative of the lengths malleable and self-serving politicians will stoop, placing politics and AIPAC pandering above the lives of the innocent (no matter their cultural background).

The truth lies in the numbers according to the 1/8/09 edition of the Tampa Tribune, 688 Palestinians killed vs 10 Israelis! 1 in 5 victims has been a woman or a child! 5,000 Palestinians fled their homes.

Tell us what hatred will logically and legitimately result from such bullying. America must take a more even-handed position. Both sides must be held accountable and the militarily stronger party, Israel must be held to some level of restraint.

The threat posed by the Palestinian homemade rockets when compared to the U.S. financed Israeli sic "Defense" Force is akin to teenagers launching fireworks and having the German Vehrmacht retaliate.

Pictures tell a thousand words and nowhere is this more true than in Gaza where a homemade rocket leaves an 18" diameter pothole in a parking lot while F16's drop ordnance that destroys an entire block in one pass. Sounds like fair play to me! I guess there's a 100 "klowns" in the legislature that would disagree. Would enjoy a face to face debate on this one!

In my book and indeed that of anyone who is rational, one Jewish casualty is not equivalent to the (lives) of 100 plus Palestinians!

Sincerely,
