Police arrest 'person of interest' in Somer Thompson case

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- In a news conference this evening, Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler announced the arrest of what he termed a "person of interest" in the abduction and murder of Somer Thompson.

Jarred Harrell, 24, was arrested by federal agents today in Meridian, Mississippi on 29 counts of child pornography. Authorities said the crimes occurred in Clay County.

Police say Harrell is a former resident of a home on Gano Ave. in Orange Park. Earlier this afternoon, Clay County investigators had that home roped off and searched the front yard with rakes and shovels.

A search warrant was served at the home, which is just one block west from where Somer Thompson was last seen. Searches also took place at locations in Callahan, Florida and Lauderdale County, Mississippi.

Good Lord, I hope that they caught the right person because everyone over there has been living in fear for their children's lives while the perp has been free. The Mom was on national news several times and she has been very cooperative with the authorities, doesn't seem to be trying to gain unnecessary attention and I really feel for her. Hopefully if this is the right one he will never see freedom again!

He's been on their radar for awhile but of course they have to build their case. I'm waiting for more info to be officially released, the sooner the better.

This case has really scared the shit out of a lot of kids and parents, and the fact that no one's been apprehended up until now has been quite unnerving.

they've had info on this guy for over a year and people have been calling in, but they are just now getting around to bringing him in. A LOT of people pointed right at him after Sommer went missing and they didn't follow up on it until many months later. I swear to God that the general public could have solved this sooner than any of those in the CC department.

If he's found guilty, put him in jail and throw away the key.
