Republican officials to meet to pick Jennifer Carroll's successor
City Councilman Daniel Davis may be top choice for the spot.

Local Republicans are scheduled to pick a successor today for state Rep. Jennifer Carroll, who was selected as GOP gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott's running mate after winning the GOP primary for her House seat.

Because no Democrat or anyone else sought the seat, whoever the Republicans choose to replace Carroll will automatically be seated after the November general election.

Jacksonville City Councilman Daniel Davis is considered to be the strongest possibility for the seat, but those close to the situation were reluctant to predict the outcome of today's vote. Davis is the chairman of council's Finance Committee. He is term-limited on the council.
