If you are a teacher, parent, student studying to teach, a student, or a relative of someone who
works in or goes to a public school, it's not too early to start mobilizing for the next legislative session.

PTSA organizations need to start mobilizing to stop another Senate Bill 6. Letter writing, phone calls, and picketing will be necessary. Last year parents were vital in getting Crist to veto SB6. Teachers are so disrespected that no one would listen to us. If you don't want your children attending test prep centers you need to start ogranizing. You can have grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors and anyone else send MULTIPLE emails and make MULTIPLE calls.

Parents need to network with other parents in neighborhoods. That is the most critical thing. Parent calls against TESTING, TESTING and more TESTING is partly what made a difference last April.

The local classroom teachers associations need to start NOW in getting teachers to become politically active. The FACT is there were about 100,000 calls and emails to the governor's office last year. I made probably 20. Many teachers made multiple. We need to start a grass roots campaign RIGHT NOW to educate members. One call is not enough. Two calls are not enough. There are 180,000 teachers. Every teacher needs to make 20 calls/emails. And those teachers need to get spouses, relatives and friends to do the same. If there are 180,000 teachers but only 100,000 communications, then MANY did not pull their own weight.

In short, when another SB6 comes up we need to have sent over 1,000,000 calls and emails to the state capital.

TESTING IS NOT TEACHING.

We are about to have a session where public schools are completely ignored despite the fact that the vast majority of kids go to a public school and the government is prepared to turn out schools into test prep centers. ACT NOW. Don't react later. Start planning. We can test their so-called willingness to listen to the people!

1. Here are students in Miami protesting. Remember, students can exercise their rights peacefully.
It's THEIR education.

If there are barriers to removing bad or lazy teachers, get rid of the barriers. Don't turn the schools into testing centers.
