Fake $1 million bill circulates in elementary school
Source: cfnews13.com

DELTONA --

Several Volusia County Sheriff's deputies were called out to Timbercrest Elementary School Tuesday morning after a school official noticed a student was holding what seemed to be a $1 million bill.

School administrators said the bill looked very real and were concerned it might be in circulation.

5. You can buy these as gag items
My husband sent away for some $1 million bills a couple of years ago. He hands them out to friends for laughs, but they were never intended to represent real money. I don't believe the US Treasury prints any bills larger than $500 or $1000.

I can't understand what kind of idiot would call law enforcement about these million-dollar bills.

10. The largest bill is $100.
Larger ones haven't been printed since the depression.

11. Years ago, I recall a traveling expostion sent out by the Dept of the Treasury...
as well as the Bureau of Engraving and Printing that had hundreds of bills from various times, US, State Issue, Confederate, Bank Issue...it was a great compilation of various denominations.

The actual bills, up to $10,000 were removed from general circulation in 1969, although they had ceased printing in 1934. The largest bill issued by the Treasury was $100,000, but was never issued to the public...(if someone actually possessed one of these privately, There would be some hefty prison time, as it was only used by the Treasury to trade gold.

There are quite a few $500, $1000 and $10000 bills, (most likely in the hands of collectors), out there...but if you open an old sewing box or coffee can and find one, it's still legal currency...but would be worth far more on the private market...hope you find one! (I'm still looking for one, doubt I'll ever see one tough...;) )

12. I paid my college tuition with a $500 bill....
I got it fromt he bank just to have it for a few minutes before I paid my tuition. I think tuition was only about $800 per semester in those days. And I was an "out of state" student which meant that I was paying more than a NJ resident.

I worked in the summer after freshman year and made $1.75 per hour to give you a point of reference. That would be about $10 per hour now.

14. Got one for my youngest daughter years ago, she thought it was real. heh
My gf's daughters have taken it to school with this year and it didn't trigger a county-wide alert in the school systems.

This is another example of people in authority taking shit WAAAAYYYY too freakin' seriously.

13. OK, this is the stupidest cops-called-to-school story EVER!
I have one of those on my desk in front of me right now. It's a gag item, like fake vomit, or the deck of cards with all aces. Buy a half dozen for eight bucks at any magic shop.

I used to keep one on me when I was teaching...any student who could come up with an original way to make fun of my name, got a million big ones.

The Stupid...it burns!!!

I am now officially no longer concerned, but merely amused.

Edited on Wed Feb-16-11 05:31 PM by onethatcares
It cost me 4.99 plus shipping. Should I send it to prickscott to help reduce the deficit?

I just realized that the teachers in that school had to be dumber than a box of rocks, better call Michele Rhee and have them fired.
