Reasons to vote for Davis/Democrats?
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 06:47 PM by justinrr1
Got challenged today at a tailgate from a friend who is self-proclaimed "more left than right" and is voting for Crist. His challenge is to prove to him why he should vote for Davis before the election comes. He is going to school to become a teacher(he definitely needs to get educated on this one). My goal is to just slam him with 100 articles/ideas(probably unrealistic). I wasnt going to waste my time trying to convince him but a challenge is a challenge and I could use this to convince other potential voters(1 at a time). I have a lot of material so far, but any reasons or articles supporting Davis or Democrats specifically here in Florida would be great. Thanks in advance.

2. One is to follow the money.
Look at who gives to Crist and who gives to Davis. Here's a link that has state campaign contributions (LINK). Crist is really sucking in the big dollars from corporate special interests.

Here's a story about lobbyists tied to Crist (LINK).

On the issues, Davis has a real plan for dealing with property taxes. Crist's plan is DOA with the Florida legislature. The big deal with Davis' plan is that he would make Florida taxes more progressive. Currently Florida has the second most regressive system in the country. The poorest pay 14.4% of their total income in taxes, the middle class 9.9%, and the top 1% only pay 2.7%. Here's a link to the study by the CTJ http://www.itepnet.org/wp2000/fl%20pr.pdf">(LINK0. Jim would cut the amount required by the state for the counties to contribute to the education budget, replacing with repeals of the taxes that benefit the wealthy. He will keep the sales tax holidays. He'll also help out small business with a cap on their property tax increases. Crist's plan does nothing for small businesses but would ultimately beneifit large developers by allowing them to pick up cheap commercial property when these small business fold due to high taxes. Here's an article outline what Jebbie and Crist did to pay for their gimmies to the wealthiest Floridians (LINK). The Save-Our-Homes proposal actually also benefits the wealthiest (LINK).

Also it's a matter of trust. Crist changes his views constantly depending on what will get him elected. The FDP has a neat group of Chameleon Charlie's flip flops (Criss Crossing Charlie's House of Waffles). Compare that to Jim's US representative site (LINK) and they'll see who is the more progressive and who is pandering just to get elected.

I'll try to post more later. Here's a cool site with links about Crist (The Anticrist)

3. Crist is for keeping the FCAT exactly the way it is
Any teacher knows that the FCAT is a scam. Neil Bush is profiting from software sales regarding the FCAT

JIm Davis opposes the use of the FCAT, as it is utilized now.

Hope this helps.

6. THE MAIN REASON!!!
Headed out to a Davis Rally real soon here in Sarasota. Bob Graham will be there too and am looking forward to it. I've posted this quite a few times now but am getting VERY VERY little response. I don't think Nelson is going to be there either which pisses me off!

I really didn't want to vote for him, but with Cruella as my Rep for these past 4 years, I want her GONE!!

I know she won't go away completely, but essentially she won't be in MY face every day!!

You have any recent polls, I just can't understand how Crist is ahead!!

4. Next President: Democrat or Republican?
The next governor of Florida will be highly influential in determining whether Florida is blue or red in 2008.

A Republican governor would continue the traditions of Jeb Bush, appointing a Sec of State who will innappropriately purge voter roles of Democratic constituents.
(find the facts to back this up so it doesn't sound like tinfoil hat theory)

A Republican governor will do NOTHING to get us a paper trail for our ballots, making it easier for votes to be flipped.

Finally, ask him if he likes Jeb. If he does, give him your blessing to vote for Crist as the man says he wants to follow in the tradition of Jeb. No, don't. Point out how even Jeb says Crist's plans for taxes and insurance won't work.

20. Would you support the creation of independent redistricting commissions to make congressional and legislative races more competitive and more geographically compact?

8. Crist will do nothing to solve the insurance crisis, other than give tax money to private insurers

9. Well, for Christ alone you can just mention the 'grading system'
he helped implement for schools. Y'know, the one SPECIFICALLY designed to take money AWAY from already poor schools and give it to the rich ones.
