http://iraqnam.blogspot.com/2007/08/sandy-britt-remembered.htmlSandy was a childhood friend of mine growing up in a suburb of Orlando. We would play GI joes and war in the hot summer sun -- and swim in the pool during those endless nights playing "Marco Polo". Sandy had a great smile and an infectious laugh. We played on a soccer team and he would jump kick the ball like his idol Bruce Lee, even accompanying with Bruce Lee's patented "Waaaaaaw!".
Sandy lived with his wonderful mother whom he much admired, I believe his father was in England - and may have been in the military. Sandy always wanted to be in the army. He moved one day and I didn't see him again until my senior year of high, when we had a class together. We had an unspoken camaraderie that only sharing a childhood together can bring to people. THat laugh was still there, and so was the desire to be in the special forces.
some time after graduating high school, and some time after sept 11th, i decided to track Sandy down via email and tell him hi and to be careful, because I knew he had been in the navy for some time. He was happy i did, we exchanged some memories over email.
Sandy died last Tuesday in Iraq from an IED explosion during operations with his unit. I wanted to let the Florida group know that a true son of Florida is gone, a brave man, a father - a son, a nephew, a husband. He was a great guy. I'll miss him.
