What can Democrats win back in 2006?
The most obvious target is beating Sonny Perdue. The leading candidates include Cathy Cox, Mark Taylor, and Max Cleland.

Among the Congressional seats held by Republicans, Democrats have been most competitive in the 11th. Assuming that redistricting does not occur before the next election, this makes Congressman Phil Gingrey another incumbent who is beatable in 2006.

Finally Democrats must do everything possible to win back seats in the state House and Senate which we lost this year. Winning back the General Assembly is the most difficult task facing the Democratic Party in Georgia, but it is also essential if we hope to stop the Republicans from redrawing the districts.

1. Nothing or All
All if we fix the election system. Nothing if it stays the same.

Simple. We have the majority and the motivation. We just need fairness.

4. now is the time to do something..
Cathy Cox is far more likely to work with the Carter Center and others in favor of machines which produce a paper trail..than a Republican Secretary of State. If we just raise hell, it will only produce enemies who otherwise would be supporting this cause. But if politicians like Cathy Cox, realize that doing this will give her nonstop positive media coverage before 2006..then why would she oppose this?

5. to vote or not to vote..is that the answer?
I had a close friend in Georgia who would not use the Diebold machines. She requested an absentee ballot, and filled out all of the necessary paperwork weeks before the election.

The ballot never came...

We contacted our Congressman, our County registrar, and the Secretary of State's Office. First we were told they had already mailed it, then they promised to mail another ballot. Then a week before the election, no ballot was mailed..my friend called, she wrote her Congressman, and she demanded an explanation. She was promised that the ballot had been sent, but if necessary a third would be mailed!

My friend never got to vote, I voted..but only on a touchscreen! Which was worse, voting on an electronic voting machine..or not at all?
