Georgia GOP Red State Ethics

A ripple of staff changes involving top officials at the State Patrol followed the recent marriage of one of Gov. Sonny Perdue's daughters to a trooper who protected Perdue and his family.

Brett's ex-husband, Joey, also had nothing to say. However, his divorce attorney, Steven Harrell, said his client was "highly suspicious" that his wife was involved with Brown before the marriage ended.

Harrell said Leigh Brett did not tell her then-husband why she wanted the divorce, but Joey Brett suspected her involvement with Brown was "the sole reason." When the couple married and moved to North Georgia, "his suspicions were confirmed," Harrell said.

State Patrol policy forbids troopers from tarnishing their reputations or the image of the patrol, said Ellis, the public safety commissioner. He said he never ordered an inquiry to determine whether Brown's relationship with the governor's daughter violated patrol standards

On Oct. 16, three weeks after the Brown-Brett wedding, Stewart Hicks, Perdue's chief of security at the Governor's Mansion who chose Brown for the detail, was reassigned to a post for which he did not apply --- and isn't qualified to hold. Hicks was promoted to captain while on the security detail, but was named acting director of the Georgia State Patrol Training Academy in Forsyth, which provides professional instruction to state troopers.

1. Oh, my. Perdue's daughter is mocking the sanctity of marriage.

The Governass can cram that up his self-righteous keister the next time he's plugging "moral values" for the Baptists.

The article also says:

"Brett's ex-husband, Joey, also had nothing to say.

Joey and Leigh Brett were married in 1995, and their twin daughters were born four years later. When Perdue ran for governor and after he was elected, the Bretts and their twins often appeared with him at public events."

So she's an adulturess, too? And with twin five year-old children?

The "moral values-ten commandments" party strikes again.

2. Why aren't more people talking about this?
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 07:12 PM by Charlie Brown
Sonny's daughter gets it on with one of her dad's entourage (who's on the taxpayers' payroll), and Sonny pulls strings to get both the trooper and the guy who recommended him transfers (to posititions they aren't even qualified for), which proves he knew what was going on with his daughter. As a taxpayer, I'm outraged. Sonny is taking advantage of the personnel and resources we place at his disposal for his familys' own gain (and endangering peoples' lives, as far as the transfers are concerned). This is an impeachable offence. Why aren't state legislators denouncing these actions?

3. the amoral majority..
where are those who wanted to impeach Clinton for Whitewater and appointments he made when Governor? For years Republicans resented Tom Murphy because he treated the State Patrol as his personal pet, they called it corrupt and unethical. Now that Sonny Perdue is Governor and Republicans control the General Assembly, forgotten are the high morals and ethical purity which they promised to bring to office.

With Sonny Perdue it means another slap on the back for a good ole boy and shifting of some more dollars, but if Sonny was a Democrat the Republican screams would be endless..that corrupt, immoral, reckless tax and spend liberal, unchristian father of a slut!
