Air America Radio is coming to Atlanta
It was announced a week or so ago -- however, I can't find anything on the web or in the AJC.

Anybody know which radio station will broadcast it?

1. Atlanta is not listed
on http://209.208.176.243/pub/resStations.htm where they show stations that are currently on the air and those "coming soon."

It is totally right-wing.

5. Boy, you're right on that one! Only good show is Clark Howard.
I enjoy listening to him, and I'm very disappointed they shortened his hours to give Hannity a spot. As soon as he comes on, I shut it off.

8. I had a heated discussion with the PD of WSB on this very thing
They tout Clark Howard as their #1 rated show yet they cut it short for Hannity.

I told him he was putting ideology over profits.

He denied it and said Hannity pulled strong ratings and allowed Howard to not spend as much time on the air.

BS, I said -tons of syndicated shows get high ratings - but you picked a rightwing hatefest.

12. Who is the PD and how did you contact him?
I'd sure be willing to contact him. Just you and I won't matter, but if they get enough calls, just maybe they'll think about a change.

6. Not very reliable source
But who knows:

Air America to hit Atlanta

Al Franken recently noted on air that the liberal radio network Air America is coming to an Atlanta-based radio station next Monday. Jon Sinton, Air America president who is based in Atlanta, said he only has a verbal agreement so he can't name the AM station just yet but confirmed that Monday is a possible launch date. For now, locals can hear Air America on the Internet or the two subscription-based satellite radio networks, XM and Sirius.

11. OH please let everybody know when you find out which station!
Post it on the General discussion board! I'll be very happy because I live north of Atlanta, but should be able to pull in the station. Everyone else in the Country will be happy too because Georgia is such a conservative state!

7. there was a blurb about it in the Entertainment section of ajc
in today's paper (tues 8/17)

The ajc said it was an AM station but did not say which one.

I am going to be so happy, I might volunteer at whatever station it is.

10. As far as I know, Malloy does his broadcast from his home in Newnan.
You're right, he could be on any station in Atlanta...or anywhere else for that matter.

I would love to hear him on a local station instead of having to listen to him only on the net, but I can't see an atlanta station doing that.

Ohhhh, please prove me wrong!

15. Technical aspects may delay the launch in Atlanta til the 30th
Air America prez Jon Sinton won't give me the station name yet cos the ink isn't dry on the contract. It's only a verbal agreement until the lawyers sign off on the paper work. Technical aspects may delay the launch til the 30th, he said. He will get me the name hopefully by the end of the week.

-- Cheers, Rodney Ho, AJC radio reporter

I love this page on Access Atlanta. Having worked in radio for many years, radio gossip is always juicy to me.

I used to call "Real Radio 105.3FM's" listener feedback line after they went rightwing talk and taunt them for making the format change. I always said they were doomed to fail because metro-Atlanta wouldn't support a third conservative talk station (fourth or fifth if you count 680 The Fan, who runs O'Reilly, and nother piddly AM station that runs Laura Ingraham.

Now, this from the above cited page:

The Real Radio (105.3 FM)ratings are disturbingly low. How will Clear Channel, the owners, ultimately react? I have no clue. Will they bring back the '80s station? I doubt it.

27. it pisses me off how much right wingers take for granted in Georgia!
liberals can't get one talk radio station that can be received outside 285, or even inside at night! But the neocons have endless talk radio stations, FM and AM, in north and south Georgia.

Yet these creeps get away with low ratings, little advertising, and painfully waist-deep rat droppings..while we prey for one station with no range! :grr:

20. Sorry to hear that its 1380
Along with the 'public affairs' programs on 89.3 WRFG (Radio Free Georgia, straight outta little 5 points!) WAOK is pretty much the only Democratic/Liberal radio on the air in Atlanta as it is. Also, its the only african-american talk radio in town (that I'm aware of, at least) WAOK does a great job if following atlanta politics & the current afternoon show with Ms. White is great.

It will be great to hear Air America here in the ATL, though.

21. I agree...
...but If I were the station owner, I would retain the afternoon hot and put her in the mornings, followed by the host who does a show from 10 - 12PM.

I would then kick AA off at 12 noon.

23. I believe that Al may have misspoke.
He said "San Diego and Atlanta".

Two weeks later, San Diego and Ann Arbor got AAR.

I think he meant Ann Arbor.

Dammit!
