Official GA-based "Neal Boortz is such a LIAR!!" thread

Figured we needed one.

If you hadn't seen this Media Matters entry, you should:

Boortz falsely claimed Clinton was convicted of perjury

On the July 5 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, while discussing President Bush's commutation of former vice presidential chief of staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby's jail sentence, Neal Boortz falsely claimed that "Scooter Libby and Bill Clinton got sentenced and convicted for exactly the same crime." As Media Matters for America has previously noted, Clinton was not indicted on criminal charges of perjury by independent counsel Robert Ray or his predecessor, Kenneth Starr. By contrast, a federal jury convicted Libby on four counts of perjury, obstruction of justice, and making false statements. U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton subsequently sentenced him to 30 months in federal prison.

After Boortz made his false statement, a caller responded, "I don't remember Bill Clinton actually being convicted for perjury." Boortz told the caller: "I'm sorry, he was." When the caller stated that the Senate had acquitted Clinton on impeachment charges, Boortz repeated the falsehood a third time, saying: "We're talking about a criminal trial, sir. The verdict was guilty."

Later in the broadcast, during the "Information Overload" segment, Boortz repeated the falsehood again, stating, "Scooter Libby was convicted of the exact same thing that Bill Clinton was convicted of."

The Georgia Association of Broadcasters awarded Boortz and his radio show the honors of "Best Radio On-Air Personality" and "Best Radio Program, Any Type" in 2007. Boortz is a nominee for the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame 2007 Career Achievement Award. Boortz's flagship station is WSB in Atlanta.

I loathe Boortz with a white-hot intensity for so many reasons, not the least of which is his hatred of common people and his bigotry against anything even remotely beyond his idea of a norm, the norm being, of course, white, christian, and male.

But mostly, it's just his flat-out inability to tell the truth. He is a fucking LAWYER. He knows full well that he is lying to his audience about Clinton. And he just doesn't care.

Boortz wants to ram a grotesquely unfair, anti-progressive "Fair Tax" down unsuspecting, gullible cult members' throats because he is a fabulously well-salaried hack (he pulls in around two mill a year as a RW goon from his radio shitfest alone) who feels he needs an even more generous break than Chimpy McFuckstain afforded his ilk upon sElection.

The man really needs to be sodomized with a rusty chainsaw. But I'd settle for a rusty microphone.

1. Boortz won "Worst Person in the World" on Olbermann for this comment
Thing about Boortz is he doesn't even care about the truth and neither do his listeners. Anyone who listens to him and thinks they are hearing the truth are idiots. He has always just made stuff up. I can't believe people listen to him - but they do. Of course you can't get on his show to correct him, because he just continues the lie and hangs up on you (I've tried before). I'm a history teacher and I had a student this year that was always saying the most incredibly stupid crap in class. Every time I asked her where she heard that she would reply "Neil Boortz." Even after I would give her web sites (legitimate news sources) to double check her "facts" she would still believe him, because he "couldn't just make things up on the radio, so it must be true." ARGH!

2. An Ass and Bigot since at least the 1970s.
Edited on Mon Aug-13-07 11:09 PM by Hoyt
How did I miss a chance to comment on my favorite Georgia bigot. The SOB has made a living off the same imbeciles that voted for white supremacist Lester Maddox --whom Boortz wrote speeches for -- and continue to support the same right wing, bigoted philosophy. Takes real brains to write speeches to appeal to that bunch.

If you want to laugh at some real losers, take a moment and listen to his talk show. The callers are like Limbaugh's and Hannity's, all too ready to cuddle with their despicable idol.

3. Neal's listeners are a special kind of stupid
They think they're smart, and "independent," because Neal claims to be Libertarian (kinda/sort of) and usually throws out a few token insults aimed at Republicans.

Anyone foolish enough to believe in his "Fair Tax" scam with Lyin' John Linder probably deserves to be taken to the cleaners.

4. WSB is the problem, not Neal Boortz
I was driving along Highway 92 in Woodstock and saw the following Billboard put up by WSB Radio 750:

STOP HILLARY

Listen To Sean Hannity
on WSB Radio 750

I listened to Neal Boortz Engage in his "dialogue" with Newsman Jamie Dupree. Neal slurs Harry Reid, slams Hillary Clinton and smear John Edwards with Jamie Dupree, OOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhh and Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhing the whole time. Neal praises Trent Lott and Mitch McConnell and Jamie says what a great guy he is.

In the afternoon, Sean Hannity comes on Clark Howard's Consumer Advocate Show and attacks, smears and slurs Democrats, while Clark agrees and tells Sean what a great American he is.

Scott Slade The WSB Morning Newsman takes calls from Sean Hannity and allows him to slur, smear and attack Democrats with question or challenge and if I might add without any integrity

Clark Howard uses every occassion he can to talk up Neal Boortz's "Fair Tax." Clark Howard and Neal Boortz are millionaires. The top Tax bracket would be cut from 38% to 23%, people earning under 30,000 would see their taxes rise from 15% to 23%. But it is worse than that. Clark and Neal want employees to pay their own Unemployment Insurance, The Employer Portion of Social Security and Medicare Taxes(They also want to destroy Social Security and Medicare).

Clark Howrd took 30 minutes out of his show to attack Unions for trying to organize Starbucks Employees. Clark Howard is a millionaire; the average Starbucks employee makes between 8-10 dollars an hour.

These are not Consumer Advocate Postions these are Right-wing Republican/Liberterian Stands.

Voltaire said of the Holy Roman Empire, it isn't Holy, it isn't Roman and it certainly isn't an Empire.

Voltaire was absolutely correct.

WSB advertises itself as a Newstation.

That is a lie.

WSB advertises itself as Talk Radio.

That is a lie.

Anyone who has ever heard Neal Boortz bully anyone liberal, moderate, Democrat or Independent who has dared called his show, know that is a lie.

KOS recently went Bill O'Reilly's home to confront Bill about his vicious attacks on them.
This was right after Fox's Bill O'Reilly sent one of his Producers to confront Bill Moyers in front of his Home.
I think giving Bill some of his own medicine is a great idea.... and remember he started it.

As long as WSB can call itself a News Station or Talk Radio (Sean Hannity and Neal Boortz, Talk Radio?) and not be challenged, it will only get worse.

I am angry, because I remember when WSB was a News Station. When Aubrey Morris and Elmo Ellis worked there, integrity mattered.
Then Clark and Neal Boortz came. Now it is just Reagan Swift Boat Gestapo Radio.

I am willing to picket, is anyone willing to join me.

The Billboard has to go. Clark needs to choose between being a right-wing hack or a real Consumer Advocate. He can't be both.
Neal Boortz and Sean Hannity need the Fairness Doctrine.

But most of all Jamie Dupree and Scott Slade need to stop the right-wing banter with Sean and Neal. The smears and slurs have to stop.
A newsman/woman doesn't do that. Somebody needs to call them on it.

I want to picket in front of WSB, anyone want to join me?

5. I'd participate.
The sad truth is that it's not WSB, it's the jerks that listen to that crap, believe it, and buy the junk those Radio Bigots sell.

Everyone I've ever heard support the "fair tax" think they will come out better. And that is all that matters to too many folks. If they come out better, the hell with everyone else including the poor, infirmed, elderly, etc. That's what I think libertarians believe.

We have very low taxes in this country, but the right wingers whine about a few percent going to help people who really need it.

6. Well, remember who OWNS WSB?
And pays Neal's salary?

Why, that'd be the same folks who own the "liberal" Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

11. Also has a face for radio
and, unfortunately, appeals to the weak-minded and under-educated, esp. with his lie of the "fair tax". Got into a minor debate with one of his starry-eyed "fair tax" fanatics. I couldn't come up with an argument that wasn't countered with "consumption tax is fair" or "the corporations don't pay taxes anyway, so why make them?" Like most freepers and semi-freepers, ignore logic when it gets in the way. :hurts:

12. Any tax that hits middle income people harder than very wealthy is not "fair."
If you need a handy list of reasons why the Fair Tax sucks for your next close encounter of the Freeper kind, here's a doozy:

http://www.allanburns.com/more/index.cfm?Fuseaction=The_SoCalled_Fa§ion=more_12804

* John Linder’s “FairTax” would raise taxes on most Americans while lowering those of wealthy taxpayers.

* The stated tax rate of 23 percent is misleading because it is a “tax-inclusive” rate, which is not how we think of a sales tax. Linder’s proposal would actually add 30 percent to nearly all purchases.

* At the 30 percent rate, the “FairTax” will produce less revenue than the taxes it will replace. This will result in enormous deficits or dramatic cuts in public services.

* To offset all lost revenue and maintain current service levels, a sales tax rate of 34% to 50% or higher would be needed. This would be in addition to state and local sales taxes.

* Linder’s proposal assumes that virtually all purchases would be taxed, including food, medical services, financial services, purchases by governments, schools, churches, etc. If the tax were limited to items typical of state sales taxes, a rate of 64 percent would be needed.

* Taxing all government purchases would require additional revenue equal to the amount of the sales tax just to maintain current service levels. Linder’s analysis ignores this fact.

* John Linder and “FairTax” proponents assume no tax evasion, which is unrealistic based on state experiences.

* Contrary to John Linder’s claims, the “FairTax” would not bring jobs back to America that have been outsourced to foreign countries where labor costs are a fraction of U.S. labor costs.

* The “FairTax” would not result in lower consumer prices unless incomes also decline by an amount equal to the embedded taxes. This is acknowledged by Linder’s often cited economist, Dale Jorgenson.

* John Linder’s “FairTax” would tax new home sales but not existing home sales, which could have a devastating effect on new home construction.

* John Linder’s “FairTax” would not eliminate the need for an IRS-like federal bureaucracy, but merely replace the IRS with another federal agency to administer the national sales tax and keep track of personal information required to administer grants to low-income taxpayers.

* The “FairTax” would not eliminate the filing of income tax returns for taxpayers in Georgia unless the state income tax is replaced with a state sales tax.

* A state sales tax in lieu of Georgia’s income tax, along with local sales taxes, would increase the total sales tax in Georgia by an additional 10% or more.

* There is little if any peer reviewed research to back up the claims and overly optimistic predictions of John Linder and the “FairTax” proponents.

15. No idea, haven't been in touch in awhile.
Good question. His bid to challenge the evil John Linder was somewhat quixotic in the first place, but he did manage over 30% in these here parts, so I'd like to think he'll consider it again.

Linder's not supposed to be running for re-election; maybe the Gooper who does run won't be a chickenshit, and he'll actually debate Burns. (Linder, of course, blew off the challenge. Coward.)

16. I remember him skipping out on the debate. I live in that district.
I'm more than ready to help out whoever is running (I have voter lists, etc). We can win there - it can be done. George Wilson almost won the state house district that also encompasses part of the 7th district. I'm glad he's running again too. I think we'll make some pretty big gains out this way.

Mostly, I am just sick and tired of the mind-set of the northern 'burbs, wherein it's assumed that if you're a white male homeowner, that you're a Repig, and a conservo-fascist to boot.
